DIETERICH -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Dieterich captured the championships of the Dieterich Holiday Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments Wednesday.

CHBC handed South Central a 75-61 loss in the girls tourney. The Cougars stepped out to a 23-12 opening quarter lead but CHBC came back with a 20-10 second period to pull within 33-32 at halftime. CHBC then had a 43-28 second half.

Gracie Heckert led the way for the Bobcats with 27 points on seven field goals, including three trifectas and 10 of 12 at the line. Marissa Summers added 14 points and Lani Morrison 12.

South Central was led by Laney Webster with 20 points, Brooklyn Garrett with 17 and Taegan Webster with 11.

In the third place contest, Dieterich downed Newton 45-36. With a 16-8 halftime lead, the Movin' Maroons had just a 29-28 second half lead.

Cortney Brummer was the lone Dieterich player in double figures with 13. Newton was led by Camryn Martin with 12. Ava Kessler led in rebounds with eight and Alexis Hetzer had seven. Martin led the way in steals with five. Elley Bennett had two assists. Newton drops to 6-11.

The fifth place game went to North Clay (Louisville) over Arcola, 54-44.

Kirstin Allen led the way for the Cardinals with 18 points while Miah Ballard added 16 and Allison Czyzewski with 11.

The Cardinals trailed 20-11 after the opening quarter but pulled within 29-28 at halftime. North Clay then had a 26-15 second half.

The seventh place game was easily claimed by Brownstown/St. Elmo over Casey-Westfield, 63-17.

BSE took a 17-6 opening quarter lead and then it was just a matter of how large the win total was going to be.

Audrey Wilhour scored 16 while Laney Baldrige added 12 and Jayna Ireland 10.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Gracie Heckert and Lani Morrison, Dieterich's Kaitlyn Boerngen and Cortney Brummer, South Central's Brooklyn Garrett, Halle Smith and Laney Webster, North Clay's Allison Czyzewski,  Brownstown'St. Elmo's Audrey Wilhour and Arcol'as Ariana Warren.

In the boys tournament, Dieterich claimed the championship of its own tourney with a 51-42 win over South Central.

The Maroons led the way early with a 14-6 opening quarter lead and a 26-14 halftime tally. The Cougars came back with a 28-25 second half but it was too little, too late.

Dieterich was led by Bryce Budde with 17 points and Andrew Lidy with 15.

South Central was led by Spencer Johannes with 15 and Ethan Watwood with 11.

In the third place contest, Red Hill (Bridgeport) won over Patoka, 58-41.

In the fifth place game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Arcola, 57-30.

CHBC ripped out to a 29-7 first half lead and that was the contest.

Kade Persinger led with 18 points while Jaden Robertson added 15.

The seventh place game went to Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville with a 56-41 win over Sullivan.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Dieterich's Bryce Budde, Andrew Lidy and Pete Britton, South Central's Aidan Dodson and Spencer Johannes, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Jadon Robertson, Patoka's Drew Belcher, Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville/s Hayden Johnson, Red Hill's Anthony Jerrell and Arcola's Beau Edwards.
