Altamont Crowned Champion Of NTC Volleyball Tourney

Altamont High School claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Indians, along with Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham St. Anthony, competed in the Gold Flight.

Windsor/Stew-Stras opened with a 25-20, 25-17 win over St. Anthony. Leading the winners were Anna Schlechte and Jessica Rauch with two aces each, Hannah Hayes with seven kills, Lexi Domzalski with 13 assists and Rauch with eight digs.

St. Anthony was led by Ada Rozene with 10 kills, Kyra Swearingen with 12 assists, Taylor Ritz with nine points and Swearingen and Rozene with one ace each.

Altamont then defeated St. Anthony, 25-19, 26-24.

St Anthony was led by Rozene with eight kills and three blocks, Elizabeth Kabbes with three aces, Swearingen with 16 assists and Kabbes and Kate Hartke with eight points each.

Altamont finished out strong with a 25-18, 25-23 win over the Hatchets.

WSS was led by Domzalski and Brianna Hewing with one ace each, H. Hayes with seven kills, Domzalski with 14 assists and Anna Schlechte and Rauch with nine digs each.

Altamont captured the title behind the two-match total statistics of Brooke Runge with 14 kills and Taylor Mette and Ella Ruffner with 12 each. Mette had 24 digs while Kassidy Pemberton had 23 and Olivia Eckhardt had 18. Ada Tappendorf led in kills with three. Ellie McManaway led the squad in assists with 43.

Altamont ended the volleyball season with a 7-1 conference mark and a 17-4 overall record.

In the Silver Flight, South Central claimed the championship.

The Cougars defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-22, 25-18. Halle Smith led the way in kills with 10 while Madyson Magnus had 17 assists. Sydnee  Garrett and Smith had one ace each. Garrett led in digs with 14. Sierra Arnold had four blocks.

South Central won over North Clay (Louisville), 25-19, 25-18. Smith led in kills with nine and digs with five. Magnus had 11 assists and two blocks. Zada Reynolds and Smith had two aces each.  South Central ends the season with a 14-5 record.

No score was reported on the CHBC vs. North Clay contest.

In the Bronze Flight, the opening match went to Neoga over Dieterich, 25-16, 25-10. Andrea Burcham led in assists with five and aces with five for the Indians. Gracie Gresens, Avery Fearday and Abby Hatton had eight digs each. Abbi Dow had two blocks.

In the second match, Dieterich defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 25-20, 25-19.

The final contest went to Neoga over SEB, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23 and the Indians won the Bronze Flight championship.

Neoga was led by Burcham with 11 assists and 13 digs, Hatton and Dow with three blocks each. Hatton had eight kills.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City tallied a victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday.

CHBC won the varsity match, 25-18, 17-25, 25-22. Leading the winners were Tatyana Duckwitz with eight kills and three aces, Zaryah Smith with three aces, three blocks, 14 digs and 13 points and Abby Sloan with 22 assists.

In the junior varsity match, CHBC won, 25-11, 25-18.

In the freshman/sophomore match, St. Elmo/Brownstown was a winner, 24-26, 25-23, 15-9.

At Cowden

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis ended its season with a loss at the hands of St. Joseph-Ogden.

The Wooden Shoes fell, 25-21, 25-14 and finished the season with a 6-15 record.

Leading the Wooden Shoes were Carly Michels with five kills, and one block, Summer Wall with seven digs, Emily Konkel and Abby Niemerg with one block each, Macy Swingler with five points and Hannah Rodgers with eight assists.

St. Joseph-Ogden won a freshman/sophomore match, 20-25, 26-24, 15-13.
