S. Central, WSS Win, EIC Tourney Finals Set In Volleyball

The Cougars won the varsity contest, 25-17, 25-21 to improve to 24-6 on the season. Brooke Cowger led the way in kills with eight for the winners while Olivia Brauer had 12 assists and two blocks. Halle Smith led in aces with three. Brooklyn Garrett had five digs.
In junior varsity play, the Cougars lost the opening set, 25-15 but came back with 25-19, 25-22 counts for the match win. South Central improved to 14-1. There was only one set played in freshman/sophomore action and South Central won 25-23 and is now 7-2-4.
South Central returns to action Thursday at Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran.
At Farina

At Tuscola
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played out of the conference Tuesday evening, traveling to Tuscola for a victory.
The Hatchets won in two sets, 25-22, 25-22 and improves to 25-5 on the season.
"I'm so proud of how the girls played tonight after having a bad night last night," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We worked around a big block and was able to put the ball down. It was very nice teamwork as we go into the Mount Pulaski Tournament Saturday."
Halle Moomaw tallied nine kills while Natalie Hayes and Brianna Hewing had eight each. Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with 27. Kinley Quast had 10 digs. Moomaw finished with three block assists.
In the junior varsity match, WSS improved to 13-6 with a 25-19, 25-18 victory. The freshman/sophomore match also went to the Hatchets, 26-24, 25-21. WSS imrpoves to 13-9-2.

At St. Elmo
Three matches were contested in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament Tuesday evening.
Martinsville defeated Patoka, 25-20, 25-20 and then won over Mulberry Grove, 25-18, 25-21. Patoka downed Mulberry Grove, 25-19, 25-13.
Thursday's finals are now set. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City meets Mulberry Grove at 6 p.m. for fifth place while Ramsey takes on Patoka for third at 7. The championship will feature St. Elmo/Brownstown against Martinsville at 8.
At Effingham
Mattoon came calling and picked up an Apollo Conference victory over Effingham Tuesday evening.
The Green Wave won 25-20, 26-24.
EHS was led by Kennedy Sowell with 11 kills, Ali Davis and Mattie Angel with 12 assists each, Megan Ballman with one ace and Lexi Chrappa with 17 digs.
In the junior varsity match, Mattoon was a winner, 25-20, 25-5.
That was the last regular season contest for the Hearts who will host the Class 3A Regional beginning Monday with Olney against Charleston. In Tuesday play, Marion takes on the winner of the first match at 5:30 while Effingham faces Mattoon again at 6:30.

Teutopolis split victories with Robinson in Tuesday evening competition.
The Maroons tallied a varsity win, 25-23, 25-18.
The Wooden Shoes were led by Summer Wall with 12 digs, Molly Pals with five points and two aces, Danielle Probst with five points and five assists and Jaden Deters with six kills.
T-town was a winner in junior varsity play, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24.

Lawrenceville came calling and captured both the junior varsity and varsity match wins over Clay City Tuesday.
In the varsity contest, Clay City took the opener 26-24 but Lawrenceville came back with 25-19, 25-20 counts for the match.
Clay City was led by Hailey Miller with 10 kills, Taylor Pittman with 11 blocks and Keidra Kuenstler with two aces and 14 digs.
Lawernceville claimed the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-21.
