Officer-Involved Shooting Being Investigated in Mt. Carmel

The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation have been asked by Mt. Carmel Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday night. Mt. Carmel police had responded to a domestic disturbance.

Preliminary investigative findings indicate upon arriving, members of the Mt. Carmel depatment encountered a juvenile suspect armed with a knife. An officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect and another juvenile. Officers rendered aid to both individuals who were transported to an area hospital. The suspect was pronounced dead by the Wabash County Coroner.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the officer-involved shooting and will provide its findings to the Wabash County States Attorney's Office for review.
