David Leroy Bright was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison during a hearing in Fayette County Circuit Court.

The 71-year-old Mulberry Grove man was found guilty in September of the 2017 murder of James Skinner of rural Brownstown. Bright was convicted of striking Skinner in the head with an object, which led to Skinner's death.

Before imposing sentence, Judge Kimberly Koester denied a defense motion from Bright for a new trial.

Bright will be on three years mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
