Results from Legislative Races in General Election

The numbers are in from last Tuesday's election as far as federal and state contests.

The new US representative from Illinois' 15th Congressional District is Republican Mary Miller from Oakland. Miller collected 242,460 votes to 87,252 votes for Democrat Erika Weaver of Mattoon. Miller will succeed longtime Congressman John Shimkus of Edwardsville, who did not seek re-election.

The new 109th District state representative will be Adam Niemerg of Effingham County. The Republican defeated Democrat John Spencer of Clay County, 41,423 to 8,939. 

Niemerg will succeed Darren Bailey of Xenia, who was elected state senator from the 55th District. Bailey defeated Democrat Cynthia Given of Olney, 76,231 to 23,178. Bailey will succeed Dale Righter of Coles County, who did not seek re-election.

In the 107th House District, Republican Blaine Wilhour was elected to a second term, winning his rematch with 2018 opponent David Seiler, 38,185 to 12,020.

Also in this area, Chris Miller of Oakland won re-election to the Illinois House from the 110th District over Kody Czerwonka, 35,675 to 11,092, and Republican Brad Halbrook of Shelbyville was re-elected state representative from the 102nd District over Democrat Mitchell Esslinger, 39,042 to 15,403. 

In the Illinois Supreme Court 5th District contest, Republican David Overstreet defeated Democrat Judy Cates, 377,896 to 224,831.
