Three people from the Champaign area were injured in a crash on I-57 at Edgewood early Wednesday morning. Information was released over the weekend by Illinois State Police.

The crash happened at 3:12am in the northbound lanes of the interstate. Two cars were involved, one driven by 34-year-old Matthew Johnson of Holly Springs, Mississippi, the other by 30-year-old Alexis West of Urbana.

Police report Johnson's car rear-ended the West vehicle, resulting in the West vehicle ending up in the ditch.

West and two passengers, 48-year-old Steven Bennett of Urbana and 51-year-old Marvin Bennett of Champaign, were all taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Johnson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, while West was cited for no insurance.
