A Ramsey man is being held in Fayette County Jail after allegedly striking his grandmother with a golf club.

27-year-old Derek S.M. Trumbold is being held on a count of attempted second degree murder. The Fayette County Sheriff's Department reports the incident occurred about noon Wednesday at the 77-year-old grandmother's home outside Ramsey. Reportedly, Trumbold asked his grandmother for a ride to Oconee and she declined. He then reportedly struck her in the head with the golf club.

The sheriff's department reported the woman asked Trumbold to summon help for treatment of her injuries, but he refused and left for Oconee after a friend came to pick him up. The woman then walked to a neighbor's house, who phoned authorities. The woman was treated at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, then released.

Officers from the Fayette County, Shelby County and Christian County sheriff's departments located Trumbold in Oconee and took him into custody.
