Fiber Cut Affecting Many 618 Area Phones Now Corrected

Effingham County 911 is reporting a fiber cut affecting many telephone customers in the 618 area has now been corrected.

Some 2,800 customers were involved.

Those in the 618 area had to use a cellphone to make a 911 call until the problem was corrected.

In addition to Altamont, the first community where we learned there was a problem, we also heard from those in Beecher City, Edgewood and Mason who were also without landline service.
