The suspected shooter in the death of a Fulton County sheriff's deputy is in custody following an incident that began Tuesday afternoon.

42-year-old Nathan Woodring of Avon was taken into custody without incident at 8:20am Wednesday.

Illinois State Police and a host of other law enforcement agencies worked to assist the Fulton County Sheriff's Department in the incident, which began just before 2pm Tuesday. Troopers responded to assist deputies at the start of the incident, which was described as a battery and disturbance call at a residence outside Avon.

Shortly following arrival, gunshots were fired, fatally injuring Fulton County Deputy Troy Chisum. Woodring then barricaded himself inside the residence.

Charges are still pending against Woodring.
