Two students from Shelby Electric service territory were selectd from a diverse group of applicants to represent their cooperative and enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC from June 14-21 as part of the annual Youth Tour.

62 students from 26 Illinois electric and telephone cooperatives joined 1,800 of their peers from across the nation on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth to Washington Tour.

The Youth Tour delegates from Shelby Electric included Kelsey Partlow, daughter of Scott and Leslie Partlow of Neoga, and Jacob Beyers, son of Duane and Rebecca Beyers of Pana.

The students toured Capitol Hill and met with US Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth and US Representatives John Shimkus and Rodney Davis. They also toured many historic sites and attractions.

The nation's electric cooperatives have sponsored more than 60,000 high school students to visit Washington since the program began in 1964.
