Charges were filed Tuesday morning in the shooting death of Effingham County native Stacia Hollinshead.

Hollinshead's ex-husband Ulisses Medina Espinosa of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide. If Medina Espinosa is found guilty, he would receive life imprisonment.

The basis for the charge is a statement from a police officer who responded to the home of Medina Espinosa's parents in Beaver Dam on Saturday afternoon due to a report of shots fired. The officer found Hollinshead shot and Medina Espinosa calm. His mother was present and said Medina Espinosa fired the shots. Hollinshead and Medina Espinosa's young daughter was also present. Reportedly, Hollinshead had brought her daughter to visit Medina Espinosa's parents, the child's grandparents, even though she had been granted sole custody of the child.

The report from investigators indicates that the child's grandparents did not know that Medina Espinosa was coming to the house during their visit with the child.

The child did not witness the shooting.

Reports indicate Hollinshead suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities also have in their possession a letter reportedly given his father by Medina Espinosa titled "Will and Testament" and signed by Medina Espinosa and dated March 23, 2019. The document outlines how Medina Espinosa wanted his estate handled and his desire as to how the child would be cared for.

Bond for Medina Espinosa has been set at $2 million cash. Prosecutors explained that Wisconsin, unlike Illinois, is not a "10%" state. That means Medina Espinosa would need to post $2 million to be eligible for release.

Medina Espinosa is next due in court the morning of May 23.
