We've been following Effingham resident TJ Hodges' appearance on The Steve Harvey Show, where his charity Roses From Linda was honored.

It was clearly an emotional moment for Hodges, who spoke to Harvey about the origins of Roses From Linda, an organization that was born out of his own family's struggles to spend time with their mother who was terminally ill with cancer. TJ and his six siblings lived in Illinois, while their mother lived in Arizona. Seeing his family struggle with the difficulties of being able to afford travel expenses to see their mother in her final days gave Hodges the inspiration to help people in similar situations. Roses From Linda has also helped numerous other charities get their fundraising efforts off the ground, including helping local resident Vanessa Merritt (who was also on the show) and many others in the effort to build Willow Park in memory of Willow Long.

One of the guests on the show, Brenda, talked about how Hodges uses Facebook to seek out those who need help, talking about her mother's terminal fight with cancer around the Thanksgiving holiday in 2012. Her mother lived in Tennessee, while her and her sister lived in Illinois. Brenda said, "somehow, TJ found out about that", and that he said "I want you all to be together for the holiday, what can I do to help you?" She said Hodges supplied money that made it possible for her family to be together at Thanksgiving.

Hodges, who was visibly moved after being surprised by the sudden appearance of many people he and his charity have helped, was further surprised when Harvey presented him with a check for $5,000 for Roses From Linda.
