Sideout Shootout Eighth-Grade Results, Area Volleyball

Trinity Lutheran captured third place at the Sideout Shootout Eighth-Grade Tournament.
Effingham High School hosted the Sideout Shootout Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
Hartsburg-Emden claimed the championshp over Our Lady of Lourdes, 25-14, 25-13.
The third place contest went to Stewardson Trinity over Mount Pulaski, 20-25, 25-18, 15-11. Trinity beat Edwards County (Albion), 18-25, 25-21, 15-10 and Prairieview-Ogden, 25-21, 25-13 to enter the Gold Bracket. In semifinals, Trinity suffered its first loss of the season to Hartsburg-Emden, 25-6, 25-22 but defeated Mt. Pulaski for the third place finish.
"The girls really got challenged with this tournament," said Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They kept their composure throughout the day with the exception to the first set of Hartsburg. I think they were stunned by how good they were. We really had to talk them through the initial shock and they played much better for the second set."
The Cardinals are now 15-1.
In the Silver (fifth-eighth place) Division, Murphysboro defeated Salem Franklin Park, 25-20, 28-26 and St. Rose won over Edwards County (Albion), 25-9, 21-25, 16-14.
In the Bronze (9-12th place) Division, Prairieview downed Effingham in three, 23-25, 25-6, 16-14. St. Anthony won over West Salem, no scores were listed.
Effingham lost to Murphysboro, 25-7, 25-22 and Mount Pulaski, 25-21, 25-14. The Mustangs won over West Salem, 25-17, 25-8.

In a Friday match, Effingham Sacred Heart and Altamont split wins. Altamont claimed the seventh-grade contest, 25-21, 27-25.
In eighth-grade play, Sacred Heart was a winner 26-24, 25-7.
In fifth-sixth grade play, the Shamrocks won, 49-26.
