Stew-Stras Advances to State Championship Game

The Stewardson-Strasburg Comets are one win away from a state championship.
The Comets defeated New Athens Friday morning 25-12, 25-23 at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena. Stew-Stras will take on Rockford (Keith Country Day) for the Class 1A state championship at about 10:30am Saturday. Rockford defeated Sciota West Prairie 25-16, 21-25, 25-17 in the other semifinal.
A reminder for Comets' fans that there will NOT be ticket sales Friday afternoon for Saturday morning's championship game. All sales are at Redbird Arena tomorrow morning.
A reminder, also, that a Welcome Home for the volleyball team is planned at 4pm Saturday in the Stew-Stras High School Gym.
Class 2A
In Class 2A, Edwards County (Albion) and Elmhurst IC Catholic will be squaring off for the championship Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Edwards County defeated Minonk Fieldcrest 25-22, 25-17 while Elmhurst IC Catholic won over Deer Creek-Mackinaw 25-22, 25-17.
Minonk Fieldcrest faces Deer Creek-Mackinaw for third place at 12:25 p.m.
