NTC Volleyball Tourney Opens, EHS Wins

Altamont and Neoga picked up two victories each in opening round pool play at the National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament Thursday evening.
Altamont defeated Beecher City 25-14, 25-10 and downed Dieterich 25-6, 25-23. Altamont is now 22-5 on the season.
Neoga won over Dieterich 25-17, 25-13 and defeated Beecher City 25-11, 25-16.
The tournament continues tonight at St. Anthony's Enlow Center as Altamont faces Neoga at 5 p.m. while Stewardson-Strasburg takes on Windsor at 6, St. Elmo/Brownstown goes up against Windsor at 7 and Stew-Stras faces St. Elmo/Brownstown at 8.
In matches at St. Anthony Junior High's Goff Gym, Dieterich faces Beecher City at 5, St. Anthony takes on Cowden-Herrick at 6, South Central meets Cowden-Herrick at 7 and St. Anthony squares off against South Central at 8.
The tournament ends Saturday with Bronze, Silver and Gold play beginning at 10 a.m. and the last match starting around 7 p.m.

At Paris
Effingham claimed an Apollo Conference victory over Paris Thursday evening. The Hearts won in two games, 25-12, 25-16 to improve to 4-5 in the conference, 13-14 overall.
Josie Zerrusen led the Hearts in digs with seven. Felicia Totten had 21 assists. Chandler Ramey led in kills with nine. Stephanie Robb had three aces and two blocks while Bethany Donaldson had two blocks.
Effingham also claimed the junior varsity match 25-20, 26-24. Paris won the exhibition match, 17-25, 25-13, 28-26.

Newton lost the opening game but came back with the next two for a Little Illini Conference victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport).
The Eagles fell in the opener 25-23 but took the second game easily 25-9. In the final game, Newton won 25-5 to improve to 8-1 in the conference, 19-9 overall.
G. Sandschafer had five aces. G. Zerrusen led in assists with 10, blocks with two and digs with eight. A. Cartright had 11 kills.
In the junior varsity match, Newton won 25-2, 25-16.

The Midland Trail Conference Tournament opened at Cisne High School Thursday evening.
North Clay (Louisville) picked up two victories, defeating Odin 25-4, 25-13 and Sandoval 25-16. Cisne then beat North Clay 25-14, 25-14.
Cisne downed Sandoval 25-8, 25-13 and Odin 25-9, 25-7.
Wayne City won over Webber Township (Bluford) 25-9, 25-7. Noble downed Webber Township 25-7, 25-4. Wayne City beat Noble 25-15, 25-17.
