EHS Drops Apollo Match to Mattoon, Volleyball Roundup

Mattoon came calling and handed Effingham a defeat in Apollo Conference volleyball action Thursday, 25-18, 25-20.
Leading EHS were Bethany Donaldson in digs with six, Felicia Totten in assissts with 14, Brittany Beals and Chandler Ramey in kills with five each, Stephanie Robb in aces with two and Beals in blocks with five.
The Green Wave also claimed the junior varsity match 23-25, 25-19, 25-23 and exhibition competition, 25-16, 25-23.

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up an Egyptian-Illini Conference victory over Mulberry Grove. SEB went out 25-6, 25-22 to remain unbeaten in the conference at 5-0 and stand 11-3 overall.
Leading the winners in kills was B. Oberlink with six. M. Walk had 16 assists. G. Moore and K. Barnick had four aces each. Two players were tied at five each in the digs category, Moore and D. Austin.
St. Elmo/Brownstown also claimed the junior varsity match 19-25, 25-16, 25-6.

Newton picked up a Little Illini Conference victory over Palestine, 25-16, 25-8. T. Johnson led the winners in kills with eight. G. Zerrusen had 10 assists. A. Cartright and T. Johnson led in digs with five each. The Eagles improve to 6-1 in the conference, 17-9 overall.
In the junior varsity match, Newton won 25-15, 25-19 and claimed freshman wins 25-15, 25-11.

Marshall claimed a Little Illini Conference win over Cumberland 25-8, 25-22. The Pirates drop to 3-18 on the season.
Lainey Jackson had 11 assists for Cumberland while Jordan Plummer had six digs. Jade Hutchcraft had five kills.
Marshall also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-8, 25-22.
