Effingham St. Anthony handed Beecher City a loss in varsity volleyball action Thursday 25-6, 25-13.

Emily Woltman and Megan Nxuoll had three aces each. Nuxoll finished with five kills. Hailey Mathias had 10 assists and three blocks. Raven Rinker led in digs with five.

Kirsten Buzzard led the Eagles with two aces, three kills,, a block and four digs.

The Bulldogs also claimed the junior varsity match 25-8, 25-12.

At Mount Zion

Effingham moved to 2-1 in the Apollo Conference with a 25-19, 25-9 win over Mount Zion. The Hearts are 7-8 overall.

EHS was led by Chandler Ramsey in digs with seven. Bethany Donaldson had 11 kills. Stephanie Robb led in aces with six and blocks with two. Felicia Totten had 20 assists and two blocks.

In junior varsity play, Mount Zion won 24-26, 25-16, 25-21.

At Windsor

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a National Trail Conference win over Windsor, 25-15, 25-20. The Comets improve to 6-1 in the conference, 10-5 overall.

"We would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting our Pink Night," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Our defense helped us a lot tonight. Our reaction seemed to be a little quicker than it has been. Team work went well and we are still trying to correct our mistakes."

The Comets were led by Baylee Quast and Clara Kaufman in aces with three each. Kendall Knop had 10 kills while Quast had 11 assists. Becca Schlechte led in digs with 10.

Windsor won the junior varsity match 25-18, 21-25, 25-12. Stew-Stras drops to 3-4 in the conference, 5-5 overall.

Clay City came calling and fell to host Dieterich with the match going three sets. Clay City won the opener 25-23 but Dieterich clawed back for a 29-27 win and then took the match 25-10 to improve to 3-11.

Mindy Bohnhoff had 17 points, three aces and 22 assists. Mallorie Vahling led in digs with 15. Madison Boerngen had nine kills and led in blocks with three.

Clay City won the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-19 and the freshman/sophomore match 25-15, 25-20.

At Dieterich

Neoga came calling and picked up a hard-fought National Trail Conference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown 25-15, 33-31.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led in kills by B. Oberlink with four. G. Moore had 10 digs. The Eagles drop to 2-3 in the conference, 8-11 overall.

Neoga also picked up the junior varsity win 25-20, 23-25, 25-19.

North Clay (Louisville) defeated South Central 25-19, 20-25, 25-19 in a non-conference match Thursday.

In junior varsity play, South Central was the winner 26-24, 25-14.

 

At Newton

Newton hosted Marshall and picked up a 25-10, 25-22 varsity victory. G. Zerrusen led the Eagles in assists with eight, blocks with two and digs with eight. A. Kline and T. Johnson had three aces each. A Cartright led in kills with four.

In junior varsity play, Newton won 25-22, 22-25, 27-25 and a freshman match 25-9, 26-24.
