Bulldogs Claim Newton/St. A Volleyball Tourney

Effingham St. Anthony High School went 5-0 to win a tough Newton/St. Anthony Volleyball Tournament Saturday. The Bulldogs finished first followed by Benton, Newton and Tri-County in the top four.
In Pool A play, Newton defeated Teutopolis 25-14, 25-22; Pana downed Tri-County 25-17, 22-25, 15-12; Tri-County won over Newton 25-18, 26-24; Teutopolis defeated Pana 25-14, 25-21; Newton won over Pana 26-24, 26-28, 15-13 and Tri-County defeated Teutopolis 25-13, 25-18.
In Pool B play, St. Anthony beat Olney 25-19, 25-19; Benton won over Shelbyville 25-18, 25-19; St. Anthony defeated Shelbyville 25-18, 25-12; Benton downed Olney 25-7, 25-15; St. Anthony claimed a 25-18, 25-23 win over Benton and Shelbyville won over Olney 25-18, 25-20.
St. Anthony defeated Newton in a crossover match 25-12, 25-18 which put the Bulldogs in the championship match against Benton who defeated Tri-County in their crossover match.
St. Anthony lost the first set 25-21 but came back to win 25-22 in the second and finished it off 15-12 in the third set. Named to the All-Tournament team from the Bulldogs were Megan Nuxoll and Rachel Schultz.
St. Anthony's junior varsity went to the Decatur St. Teresa tournament and finished third.

At Ramsey
Beecher City claimed a victory over Ramsey. The Eagles lost the first game 25-13 but came back with 25-18, 25-15 counts to pull out the match.
Leading the Eagles were Kirby Herrmann with three aces, seven kills, three blocks and 10 digs and Kacie Hilt with 15 assists.
Beecher City improves to 5-7 and is back in action at the Vandalia Tournament.
At Ramsey

At Flora
Nroth Clay (Louisville) and Dieterich competed in the Flora Tournament Saturday. The Cardinals defeated Dieterich 25-16, 26-24 and won over St. Elmo/Brownstown 25-23, 25-21.
Cisne then defeated North Clay 25-23, 25-21. North Clay downed Sandoval 25-20, 25-21 but lost to Flora 25-20, 25-23.
Dieterich fell to North Clay 25-16, 26-24, lost to St. Elmo/Brownstown 20-25, 25-18, 15-11 and Flora 25-16, 25-18 then won over Sandoval 25-18, 25-14 before losing to Cisne 25-14, 23-25, 15-11.
Heidi Thoele led in points with 30 for the tournament and had nine aces. Mallorie Vahling led in digs with 36. Mickayla Winters had 22 kills while Mindy Bohnhoff had 51 assists. Madison Bourgeon led in blocks with 10.
At Flora

Mount Pulaski Tournament
Effingham picked up two victories and suffered three losses at the Mount Pulaski Tournament Saturday.
Mount Pulaski defeated Effingham 25-12, 25-17. The Hearts then lost to Champaign Central 25-19, 25-13. EHS won over Fulton 25-22, 25-21 and Taylorville 25-12, 22-25, 25-19. EHS then lost to Lena-Winslow 25-21, 19-25, 25-12.
EHS was led by Josie Zerrusen in digs with a total of 31. Chandler Ramey had 35 kills and six aces. Felicia Totten had 59 assists. Ramey, Totten and Stephanie Robb had five blocks each.
At Mount Pulaski
