Bulldogs Win, Area Volleyball Roundup

WINDSOR -- Effingham St. Anthony went calling in a National Trail Conference volleyball match at Windsor Thursday evening and picked up both varsity and junior varsity victories.
The Bulldogs won the varsity contest 25-9, 25-15. Megan Nuxoll and Rachel Schultz had big nights with 14 and 13 digs respectively. Lauren Wendt led the squad in kills with six. Hailey Mathias had 17 assists and two blocks.
In the junior varsity match, St. Anthony won 25-20, 25-19.

At Newton
Newton swept through three matches, taking wins over Olney. The Eagles won the varsity contest 25-15, 25-14.
In junior varsity play, the Eagles won 25-17, 25-22 and in the freshman match, Newton was a 25-19, 25-12 winner.
In varsity play, Newton was led by A. Cartright with four aces and four kills. G. Zerrusen led in assists with five. H. Litzelman had five blocks. E. Johnson led in digs with three. The Eagles are now 4-3 on the season.

Neoga picked up two victories over host Beecher City. The Indians won the varsity contest 25-10, 25-12. The Eagles drop to 3-5 on the season.
Kacie Hilt led Beecher City in digs with seven and assists with seven. Kirsten Buzzard had three kills.
In the junior varsity contest, Neoga won 25-13, 25-13.

At Strasburg
Altamont handed Stewardson-Strasburg a National Trail Conference loss 25-22, 25-19. The Comets drop to 2-1 in the conference, 4-1 overall.
"Altamont brought some very strong competition tonight and we really needed it before the Crossroads Classic begins tomorrow," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Passing hurt us in game one and hitting errors in game two. We had some really good volleys and great plays but it wasn't enough to put us on top. Our defense helped us a lot tonight and we can learn from our mistakes."
Altamont was led by Wendling in assists with 14, White in kills with six and Ledbetter and M. Ohnesorge in aces with one each. Ledbetter had one stuff block. The Indians improve to 1-0 in the NTC, 9-2 overall.
Stew-Stras was led by Kendall Knop with eight kills and Becca Schlechte with seven kills, eight assists and eight digs. Brittani Tabbert led in digs with 11. Baylee Quast had two aces.
In junior varsity play, Stew-Stras won 25-18, 25-19 to remain unbeaten at 3-0 in the conference, 5-0 overall. Stew-Stras also won an exhibition match 25-18, 25-19.

Noble handed Dieterich its third loss of the season with 25-12, 25-13 scores. The Movin' Maroons fall to 1-3.
Heidi Thoele tallied four points and had one ace and five digs. Faith Boerngen had five assists. Madison Boerngen led in blocks with three. Mallorie Vahling had three kills.
Noble also won the junior varsity match 25-11, 25-11.
