Bulldogs Finish Second at C-W Tourney, EHS Fourth in JV Meet (Updated)

CASEY -- Effingham St. Anthony captured second place in the Casey-Westfield Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
The Bulldogs went 4-1, beating Newton 25-17, 21-25, 15-10; Tolono Unity 25-14, 25-27, 15-11, Heritage 25-13, 25-18 and Cisne 32-30, 23-25, 15-12. St. Anthony then fell to Edwards County (Albion) in the championship match, 26-24, 25-16.
Haylee Mathis and Lauren Wendt were named to the All-Tournament Team. St. Anthony is now 6-2 on the season.
Newton finished pool play in the tourney by winning over Heritage 25-21, 25-15, losing to the Bulldogs, then beating Unity 25-21, 14-25, 15-10. In the Silver Division, Newton lost to Unity 24-26, 25-20, 15-11 then won over Casey-Westfield 25-17, 15-25, 18-16.
The Eagles are now 3-3 on the season.

Champaign Central JV Tournament
Effingham finished fourth in the Champaign Central Junior Varsity Tournament Saturday.
The Hearts opened with a victory over Champaign St. Thomas More 25-20, 14-25, 15-9 before falling to Champaign 25-18, 16-25, 15-7. EHS then fell into the third place match and lost to St. Joseph-Ogden 25-23, 25-18.
Mahomet-Seymour won the championship over Champaign. Champaign St. Thomas More finished seventh by beating Urbana. Rantoul won the consolation championship over Lexington.
