SIGEL -- Sigel St. Michael advanced in its own Class 7-1A Regional Saturday.

 

Oakland Lake Crest opened the day with a 26-24, 18-25, 25-21 win over Stewardson-Strasburg.

St. Michael then defeated Windsor, 25-6, 25-10.

Mattoon St. John's downed Findlay Okaw Valley, 25-19, 25-15.

Oakland Lake Crest and Martinsville now meet today at 6 p.m. followed by Sigel St. Michael against Mattoon St. John's at 7.

The winners advance to the championship match Tuesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Newton St. Thomas was the lone area team advancing in the Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional Saturday.

In the opening match, Grayville won over Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-17, 25-20.

Mulberry Grove defeated Pocahontas, 25-19, 26-24.

Newton St. Thomas then downed Ramsey, 25-20, 25-15.

West Salem and Grayville will meet at 6 p.m. today while Newton St. Thomas will take on Mulberry Grove at 7 p.m.

The winners advance to the championship match Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Casey-Westfield opened this regional with a 25-18, 25-20 win over Albion.

Effingham St. Anthony, seeded second, then downed Hutsonville, 25-3, 25-8.

The Bullpups were led by Bella Schultz with six kills and JackLynn with five. Nina Semple had 10 assists and 11 aces. Morgan Lustig also had 11 aces.

Oblong ended Dieterich's season, 25-12, 25-7.

North Clay and Casey-Westfield will meet at 6 p.m. today followed by St. Anthony taking on Oblong, at 7.

The winners then advance to the champinoship match Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

St. Anthony -- Semple, 10 assists, 11 aces; Lustig, 1 kill, 11 aces; Schultz, 6 kills, 1 block, 1 ace; Griffith, 2 assists, 2 aces; Nuxoll, 5 kills, 1 ace

 

Class 7-2A Paris Crestwood Regional

Neoga picked up a win, then suffered a loss in the Class 7-2A Paris Crestwood Regional.

Neoga downed Villa Grove, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21. Bement won over Arcola, 25-19, 25-9. Oakwood then downed Paris Crestwood, 25-16 25-16.

Neoga fell to Champaign St. Matthew, 25-17, 25-8.

Oakwood was a winner over Bement, 25-23, 25-14.

Champaign St. Matthew and Oakwood will meet for the regional championship today at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Assumption Central A&M Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City advanced in the Assumption Central A&M Regional Saturday.

CHBC downed St. Elmo/Brownstown, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13.

Hadley Pope led in points with 17.

In the other match, Altamont fell to Nokomis. Altamont won the opener 26-24 but Nokomis came back with 25-22, 25-20 victories.

Teegan Burus led Altamont in aces with seven and assists with six. Addi Neu had five kills. Payton Ort led in digs with 10.

Assumption Central A&M will meet Nokomis Monday followed by South Central against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

Class 8-2A Assumption Central A&M Regional

Altamont -- Burrus, 7 aces, 6 assists, 1 kill; Merritt, 2 aces; Neu, 3 aces, 5 kills, 1 dig; Ort, 2 aces, 10 digs; Polk, 9 digs; Roberts, 1 ace, 1 kill; Totten, 1 ace, 3 kills, 1 block, 6 digs

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City -- Hart, 5 points; Pope, 17 points; Thatcher, 4 points; Collins, 6 points; Lawrence, 5 points; Thompson, 1 point

 

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Robinson Nuttall ended T-town's stay in its own regional by taking 25-12, 25-19 wins.

Lawrenceville Parkview then defeated Red Hill (Bridgeport), 25-9, 25-10.

Jasper County won over Cumberland, 25-21, 25-12. Leading the way were Ochs with five kills, Mulvey with seven assists, Jansen, Kuhl, Ochs and Lingafelter with one dig each and Hall with one block.

Jasper County is now 14-6 on the season.

Shelbyville Moulton and Robinson Nuttall will square off Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Jasper County will meet Lawrenceville Parkview at 6. The winners then advance to the championship match Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Reiognal

Jasper County -- Ochs, 5 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig; Briscoe, 3 kills; Hall, 3 kills, 1 block; Mulvey, 1 kill, 7 assists; Lingafelter, 1 kill, 1 dig; Jansen, 1 dig

 

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham advanced in the Taylorville Regional with a victory Saturday.

In the opener, Mount Zion won over Mattoon, 25-20, 25-21.

Effingham then defeated Charleston, 25-10, 25-14. Miley Wilson and Kendyl Smith led in kills with three each. Smith led in aces with eight. Jade McGee had five assists. Kenley Moore led the team in digs with four.

In the final match of the day, Rochester downed Stephen Decatur, 25-7, 25-6.

Mount Zion and Taylorville will meet today at 5 p.m. followed by Effingham against Rochester at 6 p.m.

The winner will advance to the championshp match Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham -- Holalnd, 1 assist; McGee, 5 assists, 1 dig; Hites, 2 kills; Wilson, 3 kills, 2 aces, 1 dig; Barnhart, 1 dig; Fear, 2 kills; Moore, 3 aces, 3 assists, 4 digs; Bailey, 1 kill, 3 assists, 2 digs; Hoffoman, 1 kill, 4 aces, 2 digs; Meltabarger, 1 ace; Smith, 3 kills, 8 aces; Hood, 2 kills; Traxler, 1 kill

 

At Effingham

Stewardson Trinity competed in the Effingham eighth-grade tournament Saturday and went 2-2.

Trinity finished third in its pool and played the third place team from the other pool. They defeated Albion to finish fifth.

"We struggled to play our best most of the day," said Coach Tammy Manhart. "It was just an off day. We played some of the best competition we have seen all season. Our best match was losing to Mount Pulaski in three sets. I told my girls, the wins and losses didn't matter. We are working to improve our game for post-season and losing to talented teams like Mount Pulaski and Massac County makes us better."
