Effingham Junior Hgh School claimed both seventh- and eighth-grade wins over Cumberland in volleyball action Thursday.

The Mustangs' seventh-grade crew was a 25-19, 21-25, 25-4 winner and improved to 18-2 on the season.

Kendyl Smith led in kills with seven. Cloie Bailey had 10 aces. Kenley Moore led in assists with eight. Arabella Barnhart had 11 digs.

In eighth-grade action, Effiingham won 25-6, 25-8 and is now 14-8 on the season.

April Martin had eight kills and two blocks, Olivia Koester four aces, Alayna Wade 11 assists and Addison Veach five digs.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony posted two victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade match, 25-18, 25-20.

Anna Hart led CHBC in kills with six, aces with six, blocks with one and points with six. Valentina Doty had two assists while Alyson Lawrence led in digs with four.

St. Anthony was also a winner in the eighth-grade match, 25-15, 25-17.

The Bobcats were led by Harper Lilly, Sophie Zumbahlen and Kyndra Steiner with one kill each. Natalie Tucker had three aces and two assists. Lily led in blocks with two. Raylee Martin led in digs with two. Lyric Bennett had four points.

Salem Franklin Park claimed two victories over Altamont in junior high volleyball Thursday evening.

In the seventh-grade match, Franklin Park was a 25-20, 25-17 winner.

Altamont was led by Teegan Burrus with three aces, two assists and one dig, Addi Neu and Payton Ort with two kills each, Neu with two blocks and Kali Merritt, Neu, Ort, Kinze Polk and Payton Sloan with one dig each.

Franklin Park claimed the eighth-grade contest, 25-18, 25-0.

Sophia Hendrickson led Altamont in aces with two. Adelita Ruffner had two kills, Kara Bauer had one block and Alyssa Ruholl led in digs with two.

The team dropped to 10-14 on the season.

At Salem

At Lawrenceville

Jasper County and Lawrenceville Parkview spilt victories Thursday evening.

Lawrenceville Parkview was a winner in the seventh-grade match, 25-10, 25-11.

Jasper County  was led by Wolf with four digs, Mulvey with three assists, Briscoe, Jansen, Hall, Ochs and Lingafelter with one kill each and Hall with one block.

In eighth-grade play, Wagner led the team in kills with eight, assists with 10 and one block. Stanley led in aces with four and had one block. Thomann had 14 digs. Kuhl and Groves had one block each.

The seventh-grade is 12-6 on the season while the eighth-grade has a 19-1 record.

Jasper County returns to action today against Dieterich beginning at 4:30 p.m.

At Teutopolis

Newton St. Thomas was a winner in the seventh-grade match over Teutopolis, 25-18, 25-12 Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes finish the regular season with a 7-13 record and will play Saturday in the first round of the Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional against Robinson Nuttall at 10 a.m.

Other matches at the regional include Lawrenceville Parkview against Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 11 a.m. and Jasper County against Cumberland at noon.

In the eighth-grade match, T-town won over Newton St. Thomas, 25-19, 25-21 and finishes the regular season with a 16-6 record.

 

At Neoga

North Clay and Neoga split victories Thursday evening.

North Clay was a winner in the seventh-grade match, 25-3, 25-17.

In eighth-grade play, Neoga won 25-16, 27-25. North Clay dropped to 16-8 on the season.
