STRASBURG -- South Central claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

In the opening matches Saturday, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Negoa, 25-22, 25-23, Sigel St. Michael won over Altamont and, 25-10, 25-11 North Clay downed Effingham Sacred Heart.

In the second round, Neoga beat Dieterich and Sacred Heart won over Altamont, 25-21, 26-28, 15-9 in consolation play. The consolation championship went to Neoga over Sacred Heart.

In winner bracket action, South Central defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown and Sigel St. Michael won over North Clay.

That advanced South Central to the championship match against St. Michael. South Central was the winner 26-24, 25-20.

The third place contest went to North Clay over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

At Effingham

 

Effingham's seventh-grade team won the Effingham Side-Out Tournament.

The Effingham seventh-grade team won its own Side-Out Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The girls currently have a 16-1 record. They have three games remaining before heading to the Taylorville Regional as a No. 2 seed starting Saturday, March 1. 

Effingham beat Teutopolis, 25-14, 25-20 and won over Effingham St. Anthony, 23-25, 25-17, 15-4.

T-town also lost to Stewardson Trinity, 25-6, 25-14. T-town now has a 7-10 record.

In eighth-grade Red Pool play, Massac County defeated St. Anthony, 25-17, 25-14, Mount Pulaski won over Massac County 25-23, 25-6, Massac County then defeated Stewardson Trinity, no score listed and Effingham won over St. Anthony, no score listed.

On Court two, Mount Pulaski defeated Trinity, 25-13, 22-25, 15-12, Trinity downed St. Anthony, 25-16, 25-18 and Mount Pulaski won over St. Anthony, 25-18, 25-17.

In the Red Pool, Mount Pulaski went 3-0, Massac County 2-1, Trinity 1-2 and St. Anthony 0-3.

On the Court 3, Albion defeated Efifngham, 25-17, 11-25, 15-13, Teutopolis won over Albion, 25-23, 25-10 and Hartem defeated Albion, 25-19, 25-15.

In the Black Pool, Teutopolis went 3-0, Hartem 2-1, Albion 1-2 and Effingham 0-3.

On Court 4, Teutopolis beat Hartem, 25-17, 25-22, Hartem downed Effingham, 28-26, 25-15 and Teutopolis beat Effingham, 25-19, 25-22.

Mount Pulaski won the tournament by beating Teutopolis in the championship match, 25-16 25-21.
