Eighth-Grade NTC Volleyball Tourney -- Feb. 19 Results

STRASBURG -- Dieterich, Altamont and Effingham Sacred Heart were opening round winners in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tournament Wednesday evening at Stewardson-Strasburg.

Dieterich won the opener over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, no score provided.

In the second match, Altamont was a winner over Stewardson-Strasburg, 25-13, 16-25, 17-15.

Altamont was led by Adelita Ruffner with six aces and three kills, Kara Bauer with four assists and two blocks and Sophia Hendrickson with five digs.

In the third contest, Effingham Sacred Heart was a winner over Windsor, 25-12, 25-19.

The tournament continues and ends Saturday. In the opening match at 9 a.m., South Central meets Dieterich followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown against Neoga at 10, both in the junior high gym. In the high school gym, Sigel St. Michael takes on Altamont at 9 a.m. and North Clay meets Sacred Heart at 10 a.m.

The tournament will continue with four matches at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The consolation championship will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gym. The third place match, also will be contested at 1:30 p.m. in the junior high gym. The championship will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the junior high gym.
