Regional Volleyball Championships Settled Thursday Night

Effingham, Windsor/Stew-Stras, and Newton all will be continuing their seasons Tuesday after claiming regional crowns. St. Anthony saw their season come to a close after falling in a hard fought match.

At the 3A regional Effingham took on host school Bethalto Civic Memorial and walked away with the 25-17, 25-21 win to improve to 30-7 on the season.

Coach Laurie Bohnoff said "It was an outstanding match tonight! Our whole team played with a lot of intensity. Bria Beals had 6 killls and no errors in 16 attempts and Bella (Austin) came up with 10 kills again."

Effingham will play Waterloo at the Salem Sectional in a semi-final matchup at 6pm Tuesday. Mascoutah will play Troy Triad in the other contest at Salem.

 

At the 1A St. Anthony Regional the host school put up a valient fight but came up just short, falling to Nokomis 26-24, 26-24. Amy Hatton's club ended the season with a record of 23-13.

Windsor/Stew-Stras claimed another Regional Championship with a win at Kansas over Chrisman 25-13, 25-16. 

Hatchets coach Ronda Schlechte gave credit to Chrisman, "They are a very good defensive team so they made us work a bit tonight. I'd rather have that to help prepare us for next week. Regional Champs! That feels good to say!" 

During the match Kinley Quast beat the standing record of 429 digs in a season under coach Schlechte and is the record for the Windsor/Stew-Stras co-op.

The 29-8 Hatchets will now take on LeRoy at the Tuscola Sectional at 7pm Tuesday. The 6pm match features Heyworth and Oblong.

 

 Newton notched their 31st win of the season defeating Fairfield 25-18, 25-14 at their own regional. With the win Newton will next play Tuesday at the Fairfield Sectional against Pinkneyville at 6pm. Carmi-White County plays Metropolis Massac County in the 7pm game.
