St. Anthony, WSS Claim Wins In Regional Volleyball

Nokomis opened the evening with a 25-13, 25-17 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown.
In the second match, St. Anthony defeated Carrollton, 25-23, 25-15.
Cara Hatton led the way in kills with eight and blocks with six for the Bulldogs. Reese Hoene also had eight kills. Madelyn Gilmore had 23 assists. Lilly Gannaway led in digs with six.
St. Anthony improved to 23-12 on the season.
The Bulldogs will now face Nokomis at 6 p.m. today for the championship and the right to advance to the South Central Sectional Tuesday.
Class 1A St. Anthony Regional

Class 1A Kansas Regional
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg knocked off another opponent on its way to the Class 1A Kansas Regional championship match.
The Hatchets won over Arcola, 25-11, 25-23 and improved to 28-8 on the season.
"One game at a time," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlecte. "It was so fun to watch the first set. We looked strong. We came out the second set and just struggled with excessive errors. Some errors were from aggressive target serving or hitting and I'm okay with that. That will cause more errors. The slow arm swings and the hitting into the blocks will need adjusted for tomorrow.
"Arcola did a great job putting up a fight in the second set. They really wanted a third set."
Dieterich fell to Chrisman in the second contest but put up a tough fight.
Chrisman won the first set by a 25-14 count. But Dieterich came back to take the second set 25-20. However, Chrisman claimed the match with a 25-20 final count.
Dieterich was led by Ella Kreke with 27 assists, Kinli Michl with 22 digs, Marli Michl with 19 kills, Lydia Wohltman with three aces and Bailey Brummer with one block. Along with's Michl's 19 kills, she also had 18 digs.
The Maroons finish the season with a 17-17 record.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will now meet Chrisman at 6 p.m. today for the championship

Class 1A Hutsonville Regional
Oblong and Casey-Westfield advanced to the championship of this regional with wins Wednesday.
Oblong downed Neoga by a 25-17, 25-14 count.
In the second match, Casey-Westfield won over Bethany Okaw Valley 25-18, 25-13.
The pair meet today at 6 p.m. for the reginoal championship.
Class 2A Newton Regional
Newton will be squaring off against Fairfield today for the championship of its own regional.
The Eagles will meet Fairfield at 6 p.m.
Class 3A Bethalto Civic Memorial Regional
Effingham will take on host Bethalto Civic Memorial for the championship at 6 p.m. today.
The winner advances to the Salem Sectional Tuesday.
