Class 2A Newton Regional

Two area teams clashed in opening round play of the Newton Regional Monday evening.

Teutopolis came out the winner over Cumberland, 25-17, 25-16.

"We notched our 21st win tonight" said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "And we won the right to play Newton at Newton tomorrow night. If you want to see exciting volleyball, come watch Fairfield play Robinson at 6 p.m and Newton and our team at 7. We played Cumberland last week so we had a pretty good idea of what they would bring. I thought our setters did a great job delivering the ball and our hitters did a great job attacking the areas we believed Cumberland would struggle to defend.

"But we really beat them at the service line. Olivia Cates made a run in set one to put the game clearly in our hands. She only had one ace in that service rotation but we scored eight straight points largely because she was getting free balls or soft contact from her serves. In set two, it was Paige Swingler seving to start the set. She put us up 7-2 with the same type of aggressive serving. Madison Miller had seven kills and Elise Pals had six blocks to lead the team."

Cumberland was led by Alyssa Dittamore with six assists and three blocks, Hannah Shoemaker with four kills and three blocks, Leah Gray with two aces and Maddy McElravy with 10 digs.

In the opening match of the evening, Robinson was a 25-20, 25-15 winner over Marshall.
