St. Anthony Goes 2-3 At Tourney, Dieterich Wins Friday Match

MAHOMET -- Effingham St. Anthony High School went 2-3 at the Mahomet-Seymour Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell to Chatham Glenwood, 25-16, 25-17 before beating Okaw Valley 25-15, 25-12. The Bulldogs lost to Rochester, 25-17, 25-20 then picked up another win, this one over Peotone, 25-19, 23-25, 16-14. The Bulldogs finished with a loss to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 25-15, 25-16.

St. Anthony is now 21-12 on the season heading into regional action Tuesday. The Bulldogs will host a Class 1A regional. Tonight's matches include Altamont against Nokomis at 6 p.m. and St. Elmo/Brownstown and South Central meeting at 7.

St. Anthony will take on North Clay Tuesday at 7 p.m. In the opener, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City faces Carrollton at 6.

At Dieterich

Dieterich played host to Hutsonville/Palestine in a Friday evening contest and won 25-19, 25-23.

Leading the Maroons were Kinley Will with three aces, Kinli Michl with 11 digs, Marli Michl with 11 kills, Ella Kreke with 22 assists and Allie Uthell and Frances Verdeyen with two blocks each.

Ella Kreke, a senior, was honored Friday evening before the match for reaching over 1,000 assists in her career.
