NTC Tourney, Girls Junior High Basketball -- Oct. 24 Results

Dieterich and Sigel St. Michael advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

Dieterich was a 23-9 winner over Brownstown/St. Elmo. Dieterich held a 10-4 first half lead.

E. Bill led the way in scoring for the winners with 10 while M. Ohnesorge added eight.

BSE was led by Schwarm with six.

In the second contest, Niebrugge tallied 23 points to lead Sigel St. Michael to a 25-23 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

CHBC ran out to a 9-0 opening quarter lead behind two baskets by Thompson and a basket and free throw from Doty.

The Bobcats still held the lead at hafltime 13-6.

But in the third quarter, the Sharpshooters came back with a 10-5 run to pull within 18-16. Niebrugge scored 10 points in the quarter.

Neibrugge then tallied seven points in the final period as St. Michael continued its run with a 9-5 margin in the quarter to pull out the win.

Niebrugge finished with 23 points for the winners.

CHBC was led by Elaina Thompson with 14.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony scored two victories over Robinson in Thursday evening play.

Nina Semple led the way for the Bullpups with 12 points while Bella Schultz added eight in the seventh-grade contest.

St. Anthony held a 20-8 halftime lead.

In eighth-grade play, the Bullpups edged out to a 4-2 opening quarter lead and led 13-2 at halftime. Robinson Nuttall came back with an 18-9 second half run but St. Anthony held on.

Carly Budde led the Bullpups with 11 points.

At Effingham

Effingham pounded Charleston 29-7 in seventh-grade competition Thursday.

The Mustangs opened up with a 10-2 run and led 17-3 at halftime. Effingham held Charleston scoreless in the third quarter to take a 25-3 lead into the final period.

Barnhart led the way for Efifngham with 10 points while Bailey added seven.

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes continued to put together victories as both seventh- and eighth-graders were winners Thursday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, T-town won 37-9 over Pana Sacred Heart. The Shoes held a 22-7 halftime lead.

Zerrusen led the way in scoring with 14 points while Probst added eight.

In the eighth-grade matchup, T-town was a 9-2 leader after one quarter and led 19-4 at halftime. The Shoes went on for a 39-7 victory.

Kreke scored nine, Martin seven and Tegeler six for T-town.

Both teams improved to 12-0 on the season.
