SEB Wins EIC Tourney Volleyball Title, C'land, Newton, S. Central Nab Victories

  ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown captured the championship of the Egyptian Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Thursday evening.

SEB defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-18, 25-23. 

Leading the way for the champions were Addie Sasse, Presley Williams, Mya Barker and Peyton Barker with one ace each. Cordelia Lytle led in points with 12 while M. Barker added 10. Williams led in kills with eight and P. Barker had six. Leading in assists was Sasse with 18. M. Barker had 11 digs and Lytle had 10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Ellie Miller, Kyleigh Wallace and Macee Rodman with four kills each. Wallace led in aces with four. Gracie Wright had six assists. Wallace and Rodman led in blocks with two each. Birgen Schlanser led the way in digs with 13.

In the third place match, Ramsey was a winner over Patoka. Ramsey lost the opening set 25-11 then won the match 25-16, 25-15.

Martinsville claimed fifth place by downing Mulberry Grove, 25-21, 25-23.

At St. Elmo

Cumberland High School celebrated Pink Out Night Thursday and raised $200 breast cancer research.

At Toledo

Cumberland finished regular season play with a victory over Villa Grove during a Pink Out Match Thursday.

The Pirates won 27-25, 22-25, 25-18.

Cumberland raised $200 for breast cancer during the Pink Out contest.

Leah Gray led in digs with nine. Alysa Dittamore had seven kills. Mia Holsapple led in blocks with two. Alyssa Dittamore had 14 assists. Maddy McElravy had five aces.

Cumberland also won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-24 to finish at 6-13 on the season.

Cumberland will be back in action in the Class 2A Newton Regional Monday. The Pirates, seeded 10th, will meet No. 5 seeded Teutopolis at 7 p.m.

At Newton

Newton swept Paris in all three matches Thursday evening.

The Eagles won the varsity contest, 25-14, 25-20 to finish as the Little Illini Conference champions with a 7-0 record.

Hydi Bierman led the Eagles in kills with six and blocks with one. Camryn Martin and Bailee Frichtl also had six kills each. Frichtl led in aces with three. Martin and Allie Stanley had one block each. Sally Mahaffey led in assists with 23. Allie Hermann had 14 digs.

Newton now sports a 29-6 overall record.

Newton also won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-8 and the freshman/sophomore contest 25-13, 25-17.

Newton will host a Class 2A regional and will be in action Tuesday at 7 p.m. against either Teutopolis or Cumberland. Those two teams play Monday at 7 p.m. after Robinson and Marshall open the regional with a 6 p.m. contest.

At Louisville

South Central finished its regular season with a two-set win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday.

The Cougars won 25-11, 25-19 and improved to 17-15 on the season.

Jalynn Mitchell led in digs with 20. Kinlee Thompson had nine kills and two blocks. Bailey Wodtka also had two blocks. Addisyn Sigrist had eight digs. Reagan Roberts led in aces with three and assists with 21.

North Clay/Clay City dropped to 18-17 overall and returns to action in the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional. The Cardinals, seeded ninth, will meet No. 5 St. Anthony at 7 p.m. Tuesday. In the opening match, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City takes on Carrollton at 6.

The junior varsity squad won for South Central, 25-16, 25-19 and finished the season with a 10-6 record. The freshman/sophomore team finished at 9-3-3.
