EHS, T-town, Dieterich, S. Central Are Winners In Volleyball

Effingham High School continued to pick up victories as the Hearts defeated Charleston in volleyball action Tuesday evening.

EHS won 25-11, 25-20 and now stands at 21-6 on the season.

Bria Beals led the Hearts in digs with seven. McKenzie Love had two blocks while Hanna Thompson led in assists with 14. Berkley Pullen had four aces while Bella Austin and Love put down nine kills each.

The Hearts also won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-14 and now has a 19-3 record.

In a freshman/sophomore match, Charleston was the winner 21-15, 22-20.

At Altamont

Teutopolis claimed a victory over Altamont in Tuesday evening play.

The Wooden Shoes won 25-20, 25-23 and are now 16-11 on the season. T-town's Gabby Tegler led in kills with nine, aces with two and points with eight. Claresa Ruholl had 10 digs. Sara Zumbahlen led in assists with 15.

Altamont was led by Grace Lemke with four kills and one block, Makaylee Splechter with nine assists and 11 digs and Laila Hankins with three aces.

T-town also was a winner in the junior varsity contest. The Shoes put up 25-17, 25-18 scores and improved to 15-3 on the season.

Neoga won the opening set 29-27 but Dieterich got untracked and came back to take the match, 25-16, 25-16 Tuesday evening.

The Maroons were led by Marli Michel with 10 digs, 10 kills, six aces and two blocks, Kinli Michl with 10 digs and Ella Kreke with 27 assists.

Dieterich is now 15-11 on the season.

South Central pushed its record to 15-11 with a victory over Woodlawn in three sets Tuesday evening.

Jalynn Mitchell led in digs with 14 and aces with two. Also with two aces were Zoey Feldhake, Reagan Roberts and River Yingst. Yingst also led in assists with 15. Kinlee Thompson and Lauren Johnson led in kills with seven each. Mya Schaal had three blocked shots.

The junior varsity squad also won in three sets, 25-10, 22-25, 15-13 and is now 9-5 on the season. The freshman/sophomores split, losing 26-24 and winning 26-24 and are now 8-3-3.

At Patoka

Patocka played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and sent the Bobcats home with a varsity loss Tuesday.

CHBC won the opening set 25-19 but Patoka came back with 25-18, 26-24 sets for the win.

The Bobcats were led by Kyleigh Wallace with 11 kills, two aces and four blocks, Haley Doty with two aces and 14 assists and Birgen Schlanser with 27 digs. CHBC dropped to 11-11 on the season.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won the junior varsity contest, 14-25, 25-18, 15-7 and captured the freshman/sophomore match, 25-15, 15-8.

At Patoka

Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped a non-conference match to Shelbyville, 25-20, 25-11.

Peyton Barker had one ace and six digs while Addie Sasse led in assists with seven and had one blocked shot. Avree Strobel also had one blocked shot. Presley Williams, Cordelia Lytle and Mya Barker had six points each. Williams led in kills with four.

Cumberland fell to Sullivan in two sets, 25-19, 25-21 Tuesday evening.

The Pirates were led by Suzy Fritts with five assists, Alyssa Dittamore had five kills, one block and two aces while Leah Gray had two aces and Mia Holsapple one block. MacKenzie Claybaugh led in digs with eight.

The junior varsity squad also fell to Sullivan, 25-8, 25-14 to drop to 5-10 on the season.

Oblong claimed a victory over North Clay (Louisville).

Oblong won in two sets, 25-10, 25-22.

The Cardinals drop to 15-14 on the season and are back in action Thursday in the National Trail Conference Tournament against Altamont at 6 p.m. at Effingham St. Anthony High School.
