WSS, CHBC, SEB, S. Central, T-town, Newton Win, C'land Drops Match In LIC Volleyball Tourney

STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Effingham St. Anthony and sent the Bulldogs home with a high school volleyball loss Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets won the varsity match, 25-7, 25-15.

"I thought the girls looked good tonight especially after a few games where we didn't play to our potential," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We want to thank St. Anthony for wearing the green ribbons. It did not go unnoticed."

The Hatchets were led by Mya Friese with 14 kills, Kinley Quast and Alaira Friese with three aces each, Brinlie Durbin with 25 assists, Quast with seven digs and Brooke Schumacher with one solo block.

The Bulldogs were led by Cara Hatton in kills with six and blocks with two. Madelyn Gilmore and Addi Nuxoll also had two blocks. Lilly Gannaway had six digs.Gilmore led in assists with 11.

In the junior varsity match, St. Anthony was the winner, 25-22, 25-17. WSS dropped to 8-9.

The Bulldogs and Hatchets split the freshman/sophomore match. St. Anthony won the opener 25-10 while Windsor/Stew-Stras took the second set 25-21. WSS is now 4-6-8 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will be back in action in the Pana Invitational Saturday.

St. Anthony will be playing host to North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Casey-Westfield Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats won the opener 25-21 then fell to the Warriors 26-24. CHBC then took the match 25-19.

Kyleigh Wallace led the way in kills for the winners with 11 and blocks with two. Gracie Wright and Haley Doty had two aces each. Wright led in assists with 11. Birgen Schlanser and Macee Rodman had 19 digs each.

In the junior varsity match, CHBC also won in three sets. Casey-Westfield was a 25-19 winner while CHBC came back to take the next two sets, 25-5 and 25-23.

At Cowden

St. Elmo/Brownstown tallied a National Trail Conference win over Altamont Tuesday evening.

The Eagles won 25-20, 25-22. Addie Sasse led the way for the winners with two aces, 15 assists and nine digs. Cordelia Lytle and Presley Williams had nine points each. Williams had two aces. Peyton Barker led in kills with six.

Altamont was led by Laila Hankins with two aces and Riley Rippetoe, Grace Lemke and Maya Moore with four kills each. Hankins led in digs with 13 and blocks with two.

South Central handed Sandoval a defeat in two sets Tuesday evening.

The Cougars won 25-10, 25-9 and improved to 13-11 on the season.  Mya Schaal led in kills with six and had one blocked shot. Karli Holmes also had one block.

Jalynn Mitchell had three aces and one dig while River Yingst had three aces and 11 assists. Maddie Peddicord and Reagan Roberts also had one dig.

South Central claimed the junior varsity match, 25-7, 25-17 to improve to 7-5 on the season.

The Cougars will play host to Neoga Thursday.

At Farina

Teutopolis pushed its varsity record to 15-10 on the season with a 25-15, 25-18 victory over Vandalia Tuesday.

Madison Miller led the Wooden Shoes in kills with nine and had one blocked shot. Sara Zumbahlen led in assists with 11 and points with eight and Claresa Ruholl had 10 digs.

In the junior varsity matchup, Vandaila was a winner 27-25, 26-24. T-town dropped to 14-2 on the season.

Newton swept the evening over Mount Carmel Tuesday.

The Eagles won the varsity match, 25-18, 25-14. Camryn Martin led the team in kills with nine while Allie Hermann added eight. Sally Mahaffey had 22 assists. Bailee Fritchl led in digs with nine and blocks with two. Newton now sports a 20-5 record.

Newton won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 24-26, 15-8 and took the freshman/sophomroe contest 26-24, 25-23.

The Eagles will be back in action Thursday against Marshall.

A Mount Carmel

At Louisville

Wayne City was a winner over North Clay (Louisville) in varsity competition Tuesday evening.

Wayne City won in two sets, 25-17, 25-16. North Clay drops to 15-12 on the season.

The Cardinals claimed the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-9.

North Clay is back in action Thursday at Effingham St. Anthony.

 

 Little Prairie Conference Tournament

Cumberand lost to Heritage in the LIC Tournament Tuesday.

The Pirates fell in a tough match, 26-24, 23-25, 27-25.  Alysa Dittamore led the Pirates in kills with 11 and assists with 11. Hannah Shoemaker had six blocked shots. Maddy McElravy led in aces with three. MacKenzie Claybaugh had 28 digs.

In other matches Tuesday, Tri-County beat Argenta-Oreana 27-25, 25-19, Unity Christian won over Arcola 25-12, 25-13 and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond downed Sullivan, 25-15, 25-15.

The tournament continues today with Villa Grove against Blue Ridge in the West Gym and Okaw Valley taking on Cerro Gordo/Bement in the East Gym. Both matches are at 6 p.m. The winners square off in the West Gym and the losers meet in the East Gym, both at 7 p.m.

Thursday's finals are set. Tri-County meets Heritage at 5 p.m. for the consolation championship, Arcola takes on Sullivan at 6 p.m. for third place and Unity Christian and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond square off for the championship at 7 p.m.
