Normal University captured the championship of the Crossroads Classic Volleyball Tournament during the weekend at Effingham High School.

Normal University defeated Breese Mater Dei 25-19, 25-18 for the championship of the Gold Flight.

Third place went to Ozark over Wheaton St. Francis, 26-24, 25-21.

In the Silver Flight, McCracken County won over Sacred Heart Griffin, 25-16, 25-22 for the championship. Third place went to Champaign Central over Minooka, 25-23, 25-23.

First place in the Bronze Flight went to Belleville Althoff over Libertyville, 14-25, 25-15, 15-10. Third place was claimed by Capital City over Hermann, 25-22, 25-20.

The two local teams, Effingham and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg ended up playing for eighth place against each other in the Silver Flight. Effingham came out the winner, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10.

At Carlyle

North Clay/Clay City finished second in the Carlyle Tournament.

The Cardinals defeated Marissa, 25-18, 25-21; Flora 22-25, 25-21, 15-9; Patoka 25-20, 25-16 before losing to Carlyle 25-16, 25-7. The  Cardinals then finished with a win over Lebanon, 25-15 25-9.

North Clay/Clay City is now 10-6 on the season.

In a Friday match, North Clay/Clay City defeated Neoga, 25-16, 25-20 in varsity play. The Cardinals won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-11 and the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-15, 25-18.

 

At Farina

South Central defeated Patoka in two sets Friday. night, 26-24, 25-10.

Mya Schaall led the Cougars in kills with 11 and had one block. Maddie Peddicord led in digs with 10. River Yingst led in assists with 14 and digs with seven

TheCougars won the junior varsity contest, 25-23, 20-25, 15-3 and the freshman/sophomore match, 25-13, 25-7.

The Cougars are 5-6 on the season in varsity, 4-2 in junior varsity and 2-1-1 in freshman/sophomore play.

South Central is back in action today at Altamont.
