EHS Wins Pink Out Match Against St. A, Volleyball Roundup

The host Hearts came out a winner in the varsity contest, 25-12, 27-25 to remain unbeaten at 3-0 on the season.
Bella Austin led EHS in kills with 10. Berkley Pullen, Bria Beals and Alyssa Martin with one ace each. Hanna Thompson led in assists with 14. Sidney Donaldson led in blocks with eight. Avery Wolfe and Thompson had eight digs each.
St. Anthony was led by Addi Nuxoll in digs with 12 and blocks with four. Cara Hatton had seven kills. Nancy Ruholl led in assists with 12. Kallie Kabbes had one ace. The Bulldogs dropped to 1-1 on the season.
Effingham was a winner in the junior varsity contest, going three sets. EHS won the opener 28-26 before the Bulldogs claimed the second set 25-22. EHS then won the match 25-22 and is 3-0 on the season.
In a freshman/sophomore contest, Effingham was a 25-22, 25-14 winner.
The Hearts are back in action Thursday against Mount Zion. St. Anthony returns to play Saturday in the Richland County, Olney Invitational.

At Strasburg
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Dieterich as two National Trail Conference teams squared off.
The Hatchets were winners in varsity action, 25-13, 25-15 to improve to 1-0 in the conference, 2-0 overall.
"We started our home opener honoring our angels Edie, Karly and Sienna with a moment of silence," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We chanted ESK at the end of our hudldes and displayed their jerseys with their names on them on the bench beside their teammates. This season is dedicated to them and hopefully, we can make them proud."
Leading the winners were Alaira Friese with three aces, Mya Friese with six kills, Brinlie Durbin with 15 assists, Kinley Quast with six digs and Ellie Wittenberg with one solo block and one block assist.
Dieterich was led by Ella Kreke, Kinli Michl, Marli Michl and Bailey McClain with one ace each. Lydia Wohltman had five digs. M. Michl led in kills with five. Kreke had nine assists.
In junior varsity action, Windsor/Stew-Stras won 25-14, 25-10 and is 1-1 on the season. WSS and Dieterich split wins in the freshman/sophomore contest. WSS won 25-14 while Dieterich was a 25-21 winner. WSS is 2-3-1 on the season.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City handed Okaw Valley a loss in both varsity and junior varsity play Tuesday.
The Bobcats won the varsity match 25-20, 25-14 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Kyleigh Wallace led in kills with six and blocks with three. Gracie Wright and Ellie Miller had two aces each. Wright led in assists with six. Birgen Schlanser led in digs with six.

Newton moved its record to 5-2 with a victory over Altamont Tuesday evening.
The Eagles won the varsity match 26-16, 25-10. Sally Mahaffey led the way in assists with 20, digs with seven and had one blocked shot. Allie Stanley and Camryn Martin led in aces with three each. Isabel Meinhart had seven kills. Stanley also had one blocked shot.
The varsity Eagles improved to 5-2 on the season.
In junior varsity play, Newton was a winner 25-16, 26-17. The two teams split in freshman/sophomore action. Altamont won 25-16 and Newton was a 25-15 winner.

South Central defeated Cisne in two sets Tuesday.
The Cougars won 25-22, 25-18 and improved to 2-5 on the season. Bailey Wodtka and Mya Schaal had seven kills each. Maddie Peddicord led in digs with six and aces with two. Reagan Roberts had 20 assists and one block. Kinlee Thompson also had one block.
The Cougars also claimed the junior varsity contest 25-21, 19-25, 15-13 to improve to 1-1.
South Central will host St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

Marshall came calling and the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis sent the squad home with losses in both varsity and junior varsity play Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes claimed the varsity match, 25-5, 25-9. Megan Brummer led in blocks for the Shoes with three, kills with three, aces with seven and points with 13. Claresa Ruholl led in digs with 10. Marie Zumbahlen and Sara Zumbahlen each had three aces. S. Zumbahlen led in assists with 13.
T-town won the junior varsity match, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20.
The Wooden Shoes are back in action Thursday at St. Joseph-Ogden.

Charleston handed Cumberland a defeat in varsity action by a 25-22, 25-8 tally Tuesday evening.
The Pirates dropped to 1-2 on the season and were led by Alysa Dittamore with four kills. Suzy Fritts with seven assists, Hannah Shoemaker with two blocks, Maddy McElravy with one ace and six digs. The Pirates are 1-2 on the season.
In the junior varsity match, Cumberland won 26-24, 25-20 to improve to 1-2.

North Clay/Clay City fell to Grayville in the varsity contest. The Cardinals won the opening set 25-23 but Grayville came back for the match win, 25-19, 25-19. The Cardinals are now 3-5 on the season.
In the junior varsity match, North Clay/Clay City was the winner 25-17, 25-23.
At Neoga
Neoga fell to Arcola in Tuesday action by 25-23, 25-16 counts.
Laura Knobloch and Audrey Kepp had three aces each for Neoga. Katelyn Strohl and Kember Bryant led in kills with seven each. Bryant and Knobloch led in blocks with one each. Kepp had six digs and two assists while Kalli Reynolds had two assists.
