EHS, T-town, BSE Opens Volleyball Season With Wins

Effingham High School opened the volleyball season playing host to Salem and sending the Wildcats home with a loss Monday evening.

The Hearts took the victory in two sets, 25-21, 25-13.

Bella Austin and Bria Beals provided the one-two hitting punch for the Hearts with seven kills each. Hannah Thompson led in assists with 15. Beals also led the team in aces with five while Austin led in digs with six. McKenzie Love and Thompson had two blocks each.

The Hearts also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-12, 29-27.

Salem claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-17, 25-17.

At Effingham

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis opened the season with a victory over Casey-Westfield Monday. The Wooden Shoes won 25-20, 25-17.

Megan Brummer and Kaitlyn Horn provided the blocking power with two each. Claresa Ruholl led in digs with 10. Sara Zumbahlen had 11 assists. Gabby Tegeler led in kills with six while Elise Pals, Marie Zumbahlen and S. Zumbahlen had five kills each.

In the junior varsity contest, Casey-Wesfield won the opening set 25-21 but T-town came back with 25-18, 25-21 scores for the match.

In the freshman match, the two teams split victories.

At Bethany

Brownstown/St. Elmo fell in the opening set to Okaw Valley Monday but came back over the next two sets to claim the victory.

Okaw Valley went out at 27-25 in the opener. BSE then came back with 25-22, 25-18 tallies for the victory.

The Bombers were led in serving by Cordelia Lytle with four aces and 18 points, Addie Sasse with two aces and 17 points and Maya Barker with one ace and 11 points.

Madi Miller had four blocked shots. Lytle and Sasse had nine digs each. Sasse led in assists with 10.

At Bethany
