MATTOON -- Effingham Junior High School claimed two victories in volleyball action Tuesday evening.

 

The Mustangs lost the opening set in the seventh-grade match, 25-13 but came back with 25-18, 25-15 scores for the win.

April Martin led in kills with 10 and digs with eight. Allison Wade led in assists with six while Sophie Hahney had five aces.

In the eighth-grade match, Effingham won the opener 25-23 but Mattoon came back with a 25-23 count for the second set. The Mustangs then put the match under the victory column with a 25-20 score.

Seatyn Althoff led in assists with 19 and aces with five. Addison Barnes had six digs and one block. Keagyn Koenig finished with nine kills.

The Mustangs are back in action Thursday at Cumberland.

At Mattoon

Seventh-Grade Match

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis and Stewardson Trinity Lutheran both picked up a victory Tuesday evening.

Trinity Lutheran was a winner in the seventh-grade contest, 25-16, 25-5.

T-town was led by Lily Tegeler with four kills and Lexi Hoene with two aces. The Wooden Shoes are now 14-6 on the season.

In the eighth-grade play, T-town took the match in three sets. The Shoes won the opener 25-23 but Trinity took the next set 25-23.  T-town then won the match 25-20.

The Shoes were led by Ella Willenborg with three aces and five kills, Cecilia Donsbach with five kills and Alicen Niemerg with three aces. The Shoes are now 18-4 on the season.

T-town is back in action Thursday at Newton St. Thomas.

At Teutopolis

Seventh-Grade Match

Teutopolis -- Tegler, 1 ace, 4 kills; Ruholl, 1 ace; Brummer, 1 kill; Niebrugge, 1 ace, 1 kill; Hoene, 2 aces, 1 kill

Eighth-Grade Match

Teutopolis -- Donsbach, 2 aces, 5 kills; Isley, 1 ace, 4 kills; Willenborg, 3 aces, 5 kills; Meyer, 2 aces, 3 kills; Niemerg, 3 aces, 4 kills

 

At Newton

Jasper County was a winner over Hutsonville in both matches Tuesday evening.

Jasper County improved to 16-3 in the seventh-grade contest with a 25-7, 25-12 victory.

L. Thomann led in aces with 12. L. Kuhl led the team in kills with three. Stanley had six assists and Meinhart 1 block.

In the eighth-grade match, Jasper County was a 25-17, 25-19 winner. Reich led in aces with four and blocks with one. Schackmann had seven kills. Inyart led in assists with seven. Brooks had four digs.

The team improved to 15-1 on the season and will be back in action Thursday at Robinson.

At Newton

At Fairfield

North Clay (Louisville) split victories with Jasper-Fairfield Tuesday evening.

North Clay captured the seventh-grade match, 26-24, 17-25, 15-11.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper-Fairfield was the winner, 25-19, 25-17.

North Clay will be back in action Wednseday in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament at Windsor.

 

At Altamont

Altamont split victories with Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

CHBC won the seventh-grade match, 25-22, 25-10.

Natalie Tucker led the winners in aces with eight and points with 15. She also had one kill. Sophie Zumbahlen had two digs and one block.

"The girls played well together and were able to use their determination to win against Altamont," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies.

In the eighth-grade match, Altamont was the winner taking the opening set 25-11. CHBC claimed the second set, 25-23. Altamont then won the match, 26-24.

Jordyn Wright had seven points for CHBC. Brylie Prater led in aces with four. Jayla Arnett had two assists. Carissa Wakefield led in kills with three. Allison Shields and Ethel Stuckemeyer had two blocks each. Stuckemeyer led in digs with four.
