ALTAMONT -- Effingham Junior High School picked up a volleyball victory over Altamont in Thursday evening action.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade match, 25-20, 25-19.

Leading the way were April Martin with four kills,seven aces and one dig, Skylar Harminson with three assists and Josie Waymouth and Alayna Wade with one dig each.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham was a 25-13, 25-17 winner.

The Mustangs were led by Nora Cekander with three kills and three digs, Seatyn Althoff with seven assists, Emery Spicer with three kills, Addison Barnes with three digs and Aubrey Poe with six aces.

Effingham will be back in action Saturday hosting a seventh-grade tournament and the eighth-grade team will be playing in the Kessler's Crossroads Classic Tournament.

At Altamont

At Charleston

Jasper County split victories with Charleston in Thursday evening competition.

Charleston was a winner in the seventh-grade match, 28-26, 25-18.

Leading Jasper County were Copper with six aces, Meinhart with six kills, Wagner with eight assists, Gentry with nine digs and Meinhart with a block. Jasper County dropped to 15-3.

In the eighth-grade matchup, Jasper County won 25-11, 25-13.

Schackmann led in aces with seven while Radke led in kills with six. Ghast had even assists. Flowers, Reich, Schackmann and Inyart had one dig each. Radke had one block. Jasper County improved to 14-1.

The squad is back in action Saturday at the LEIC Eighth-Grade Tournament at 9 a.m. against the winner of Lawrenceville vs. Marshall.

At Charleston

Seventh-Grade Match

At Shelbyville

Teutopolis split wins against Shelbyville Moulton Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes dropped the seventh-grade match in three sets. T-town won the opener 25-22 but Shelbyville Moulton came back with 25-10, 25-23 scores for the match.

Lily Tegler had six kills while Faith Ruholl led in aces with five. The seventh-grade team is 13-3 on the season.

In the eighth-grade match, T-town was a winner. The Shoes took the oepner 25-19 but Moulton claimed the second set 25-18. T-town then won the match 25-18 and improved to 14-2.

Alicen Niemerg led in kills with eight. Addie Meyer had three aces.

T-town will participate in the Effingham Shootout Saturday.

At Shelbyville

Seventh-Grade Match

Teutopolis -- Tegler, 1 ace, 6 kills; Brummer, 2 aces, 1 kill; Deters, 1 kill; Ruholl, 1 kill, 5 aces; Hoene, 4 kills; Niebrugge, 2 kills; Calkins, 1 kill

Teutopolis -- Donsbach, 2 aces, 5 kills; Isley, 4 kills; Meyer, 3 aces, 3 kills; Willenborg, 1 ace, 1 kill; Niemerg, 1 ace, 8 kills; Bloemer, 2 aces, 2 kills; Einhorn, 2 kills

 

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg took two victories over St. Elmo/Brownstown in Thursday evening play.

SEB won the opening set in seventh-grade play, 25-17 but Stew-Stras came back with 25-23, 25-14 scores for the match.

Anna Brown led the winners in assists with 12. Zoey Conder had 10 kills and four blocks. Camille Helmink led in aces with eight.

In the eighth-grade match, Stew-Stras won 25-22, 25-15 and improved to 17-1 on the season.

Edie Wittenberg led in assists with five and kills with five, Jackie Vonderheide had five digs and Karly Wetherell had two blocks.

The Comets host Trinity Lutheran Monday at 4 p.m.

At Strasburg

At Kinmundy

North Clay (Louisville) defeated South Central in eighth-grade action Thursday.

North Clay won the match 25-23, 25-22 and is 11-8 on the season.

In the seventh-grade contest, South Central won 25-8, 22-25, 25-21.
