The Eighth-Grade National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament got underway Wednesday evening at Windsor.

In the opener, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won over Neoga, 25-13, 25-13. CHBC was led by Brylie Prater with 17 points and three aces, Ethel Stuckemeyer with two assists, three kills and one block, Allison Shields with three kills and one block and Jayla Arnett with three digs.

"The eighth-graders connected all the dots today and plyed one of their best games to date," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "They served at 92% and had many excellent rallies."

The second match went to Effingham Sacred Heart over Windsor, 25-11, 25-12.

Dieterich then claimed the final match of the evening against Altamont. Altamont won the opening set 25-17 but Dieterich came back with 25-13, 15-10 scores for the match win.

The tournament will continue and end Saturday.

Match 10 -- Winner Match 4 vs. Winner Match 6, 12:30 p.m. (New Gym)

Match 11 -- Winner Match 5 vs. Winner Match 7, 12:30 p.m. (Old Gym)

Match 12 -- Winner Match 8 vs. Winner Match 9, 1:30 p.m. (Consolation Championship, Old Gym)

Match 13 -- Loser Match 10 vs. Loser Match 11, 1:30 p.m. (Third Place, New Gym)

Match 14 -- Winner Match 10 vs. Winner Match 11, 2:30 p.m. (Championship, New Gym)
