LOUISVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony traveled to North Clay (Louisville) and fell in both seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball action Tuesday evening.

North Clay was a winner in the seventh-grade contest. The Bullpups won the opening set 25-17 but North Clay came back with 25-16, 15-4 scores for the match.

The Bullpups were led by Cheyenne Barker with five kills and two blocks, Nora Niebrugge and Avery Jones with two digs each and Mallory Littz with eight aces.

In eighth-grade play, North Clay was a 25-21, 25-21 winner and improved to 2-1 in the Junior National Trail Conference and 4-2 overall.

St. Anthony was led by Alexa Wagner and Rylee Fearday with four kills each, Fearday led in aces with four. Madelyn Gilmore had five assists and two blocks and Livia Jansen finished with two digs.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed both victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in Tuesday evening competition.

SEB won the seventh-grade match, 25-20, 25-19.

Leading CHBC were Sophie Zumbahlen with eight points, one ace, one kill, one block and four digs, Raylee Martin with one kill and one block and Harper Lilly with one assist.

"The girls played well and only had two missed serves," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "SEB has a very strong team with excellent serves and serve receive. They just outplayed us. We struggled ourselves with serve receive."

In the eighth-grade match, St. Elmo/Brownstown won 25-13, 25-22.

Leading CHBC were Allison Shields with six points, Brylie Prater with four aces, Carissa Wakefield and Ethel Stuckemeyer with three kills each. Stuckemeyer had four blocks and two assists and Jordyn Wright had two digs. Jayla Arnett had two assists.

"SEB has a very skilled eighth-grade team," said Coach Jefferies. "We played up to them in the second set but couldn't quite get a win. The girls should be proud of how they played."
