ST. ELMO -- Effingham captured two victories over St. Elmo/Brownstown in junior high volleyball competition Thursday evening.

The Mustangs won the sevneth-grade contest, 25-22, 25-23. Four seemed to be the magic number as Alayna Wade led the team in aces with four, Sophie Hahney had four assists, Laynee Pankau led in kills with four and Ari McGee led in digs with four.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham was a 25-18, 22-25, 25-10 winner.

The Mustangs were led by Nora Cekander with five digs, Alaina Miller with eight assists, Seatyn Atlhoff with five aces, Emery Spicer with nine kills and Keagyn Koenig with one block.

Effingham is back in action Tuesday hosting Stewardson-Strasburg at 4 p.m.

At St. Elmo

At Newton

Jasper County hosted Sigel St. Michael and picked up both victories Thursday evening.

The seventh-grade match went to Jasper County, 25-18, 25-23 and the team improved to 2-1.

L. Thomann led in aces with five, P. Wagner had four kills, J. Stanley led in assists with six and digs with two and L. Kuhl had one block.

In the eighth-grade matchup, Jasper County improved to 3-0. The team lost the opener 25-23 but came back with 25-19, 29-27 scores for the match.

S. Schackmann led in digs with three and blocks with five. T. Jones had nine kills, while J. Dhom had five aces and L. Ghast five assists.

Jasper County is back in action Monday against Marshall beginning at 4;30 p.m.

At Kinmundy

Stewardson-Strasburg and South Central split victories Thursday evening.

South Central claimed the seventh-grade contest, winning the opening set 25-21. Stew-Stras took the second set 25-18 before South Central won the match 25-18.

Stwe-Stras dropped to 0-3 on the season. Camille Helmink and Mila Carroll led in aces with five each, Anna Brown had six assists and Zoey Conder had eight kills.

In the eighth-grade contest, Stew-Stras was a winner, taking the opening set 25-23. South Central claimed the second set 30-28 but Stew-Stras won the match 25-19 and is now 3-0.

Edie Wittenberg led in aces with 10, assists with five and kills with 10. Karly Wetherell had nine digs and two blocks. Ava Harris added two blocks.

Stew-Stras is back in action Tuesday at Effingham with a 4 p.m. start.
