St. Anthony, WSS Win Sectional Volleyball Championships

NOKOMIS -- Effingham St. Anthony is headed to super-sectional action after winning the Class 1A Nokomis Volleyball Sectional Wednesday.

The Bulldogs had an easy time, downing Valmeyer by 25-9, 25-15 for the victory.

Abbi Hatton led the way in kills with 10 while Andrea Rudolphi added nine. Addi Nuxoll had one ace and three blocks. Laney Coffin also had three blocks. Addie Wernsing led in assists with 10. Maddie Kibler had 12 digs.

The Bulldogs now sport a sparkling 32-8 record.

St. Anthony advances to the Okawville Super-Sectional  Friday and will take on Norris City-Omaha-Enfield at 6 p.m.

NCOE won the Campbell Hill Trico Sectional title by beating the host squad. NCOE fell in the opener 25-14 but came back to take the match 25-17, 25-11.

The winner of the Okawville Super-Sectional will be headed to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday, November 10 and will meet the winner of the Pecatonica Super-Sectional at 10:30 a.m.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewadson-Strasburg won the championship of its own Class 1A Sectional Wednesday.

The Hatchets defeated Cerro Gordo by 25-16, 25-17 counts.

Leading the way were Ella Kinkelaar with four aces and 21 assists, Gabby Vonderheide with 11 kills and eight digs. Halle Moomaw, Samantha Hayes and Ellie Wittenberg had two block assists each.

"Sectional champs," exclaimed WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Boy that feels good to say! It's been a little while.

"Again, I want to thank all the fans for coming and supporting us tonight and to those listening at home. It means a lot to have this following.

"We started off a little slow tonight but then bounced back. We had way too many missed serves. Gabby and Ella both had big nights. They connected really well again and kept us in the game. I'm proud of all of them for this win. It takes everyone of them."

The Hatchets now sport an outstanding 34-5 record.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will now head to the Milford Super-Sectional Friday to face Cissna Park Co-op at 6 p.m. Cissna Park beat Lexington, 25-16, 25-13 to win the Streator Woodlawn Sectional.
