St. Anthony won the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional championship.

ST. ELMO -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball Regional championship Thursday.

The Bulldogs defeated North Clay/Clay City, 25-14, 25-11.

Andrea Rudolphi led the way in kills for the Bulldogs with nine. Addie Wernsing led in aces with two and assists with 12. Addi Nuxoll had three blocks. Maddie Kibler led the team in digs with 13.

North Clay/Clay City finished with a 28-9 record.

St. Anthony advances to the Nokomis Sectional Monday. In the opener, Nokomis takes on Valmeyer at 6 p.m. followed by St. Anthony against Hardin Calhoun Co-op at 7.

Hardin Calhoun Co-op won the Dupo Regional over Waterloo Gibault Catholic, 26-24, 25-17.

Nokomis was a winner of the Raymond Lincolnwood Regional over Raymond Lincolnwood, 25-18, 18-25, 25-15. Valmeyer captured the Carrollton Regional over Carrolton, 25-20, 26-24.

Effingham won its own Class 3A Regional championship Thursday.

Class 3A Effingham Regional

Effingham claimed its own regional championship by defeating Bethalto Civic Memorial Thursday.

The Hearts won the opener 25-21 before Bethalto Civic Memorial claimed the second set, 25-18. Effingham then came back to take the match, 25-11.

Bella Austin led with 10 kills as the Hearts had a total of 35 in the contest. Hannah Thompson had 21 assists and four aces. Austin also had four aces. Sidney Donaldson, Reaghan Delong and Olivia Katt had two blocks each. Bria Beals and Austin led in digs with 10 each.

The Hearts advance to the Mascoutah Sectional Monday and will meet host Mascoutah at 6 p.m. Mascoutah was a winner of the Mount Vernon Regional over Herrin, 25-15, 25-13.

In the other match Monday, Salem takes on Freeburg at 7 p.m. Salem won the Troy Triad Regional with a win over Highland, 27-25, 16-25, 25-19. Freeburg claimed the Waterloo Regional with a victory against Carbondale, 25-17, 25-16.

Class 3A Effingham Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of the Class 1A Bethany Okawy Valley Regional.

Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg captured the championship of the Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional Thursday.

The Hatchets downed Arcola, 25-18, 25-16 and now sports a 32-5 record.

"Arcola sure came to play tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They pulled up several of our good hits and they just fought for every point. I'm very impressed with them.

"We didn't play as clean of a game as what we will have to play next week to continue on. We will take this win tonight and enjoy it but get back in the gym tomorrow to make those tweaks to prepare for Monday."

WSS was led by Gabby Vonderheide with three aces, 11 kills and five digs, Ella Kinkelaar with 25 assists, one solo block and one block assist and Kinley Quast with five digs

The Hatchets will have the home floor advantage in sectional play, hosting the Class 1A WSS Sectional Monday. Windsor/Stew-Stras will square off against Champaign Judah Christian, who won the Catlin Salt Fork Regional over Villa Grove, 18-25, 25-18, 25-19.

The other match Monday will have Cerro Gordo/Bement against LeRoy. Cerro Gordo/Bement downed Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville to win the Casey-Westfield Regional while LeRoy captured its own regional championship over Argenta-Oreana, 25-19, 25-22.

Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional

Newton saw its season come to a close with a loss over Carmi-White County in the Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional Thursday.

Carmi-White County won the opener 25-18. Newton came back to take the second set, 25-20. But Carmi-White County was a 25-20 winner for the match.

Bennett led the way for Newton in aces with three and digs with nine. Kessler had 12 kills. Schafer led in assists with 13.

Newton finishes out season play with a 23-15 record.

Carmi-White County advances to the Pinckneyville Sectional and takes on Metropolis Massac County at 7 p.m. Monday. In the opener, Fairfield faces Pinckneyville at 6.

Class 2A Lawernceville Regional
