St. Anthony, WSS Advance To Regional VB Championship Matches

ST. ELMO -- Effingham St. Anthony advanced to the championship match of the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball Regional with a victory Wednesday.

The Bulldogs won over South Central, 25-16, 25-15.

Abbi Hatton and Anna Niemeyer led the Bulldogs in kills with six each while Andrea Rudolphi had five. Rudolphi and Niemerg led in blocks with two each as the Bulldogs dominated at the net. Addi Nuxoll led in kills with three. Addie Wernsing had 12 assists and Maddie Kibler led in digs with nine.

The Cougars were led by Reagan Roberts with six assists and two aces. Brooke Cowger had six kills, Jalynn Mitchell seven digs and Emma Jenne two blocks. South Central finished out the season with a 22-13 record.

The other match scheduled for Wednesday had North Clay/Clay City against Altamont. Altamont had to forfeit because of playing too many matches during the regular season.

North Clay/Clay City and St. Anthony will square off for the championship match tonight at 6.

At Bethany

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will play for the championship of the Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional after a victory Wednesday.

The Hatchets handed Okaw Valley a loss in two sets, 25-10, 25-7.

Kinley Quast led the Hatchets in aces with five and digs with seven. Gabby Vonderheide had nine kills and Halle Moomaw seven. Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with 19. Vonderheide had one solo block and Kinkelaar and Moomaw had one block assist each.

"Today we play one game at a time," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We focus on one game at a time. The girls played well tonight and are excited to go back tomorrow for the championship match."

In the second contest of the evening Wednesday, Arcola defeated Chrisman, 28-26, 26-24.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will square off against Arcola at 6 p.m. today for the regional title.

At Bethany
