Bulldogs, Cougars, Eagles, Hearts Win In Volleyball Regionals

ST. ELMO -- Effingham St. Anthony and South Central picked up victories in the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs handed Patoka/Odin a loss in two sets, 25-8, 25-13.

Addie Wernsing led St. Anthony in aces with two and assists with 14. Addi Nuxoll had three blocks. Maddie Kibler led in digs with six while Anna Niemeyer had eight kills.

In the second match, South Central won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-12, 25-12.

The Cougars were led by Brooke Cowger with seven kills and three blocks, Emma Jenne with seven kills, Jalynn Mitchell with 10 digs, Reagan Roberts with 18 assists and Emma Chambers with two aces.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Karlee Smith and Macee Rodman with two kills each. Smith, Ellie Miller and Rodman had one ace each. Marissa Summers led in assists with five. Smith led in blocks with two. Miller and Rodman had seven digs each.

The regional continues tonight. North Clay/Clay City was to take on Altamont at 6 but Altamont had to forfeit due to too many matches played during the regular season.

In the second match, St. Anthony and South Central square off at 7.

North Clay/Clay City automatically advances to the regional champoinship match Thursday and will meet either St. Anthony or South Central at 6 p.m.

St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Class 1A Bethany Okaw Valley Regional

In Tuesday matches, Neoga saw its season come to a close against Arcola.

No. 6 seeded Arcola defeated No. 11 Neoga, 25-16, 25-22.

In the opener, No. 3 Chrisman won over No. 12 Tuscola, 25-16, 25-20.

Tonight's matches will feature No. 2 Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg taking on Bethany Okaw Valley at 6 followed by Chrisman facing Arcola at 7.

The winners advance to the regional championship Thursday.

 

Class 2A McLeansboro Hamilton County Regional

Teutopolis fell in its second match at the McLeansboro Hamilton County Regional Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes, seeded seventh, dropped its loss to No. 1 seeded Fairfield, 25-8, 25-13.

T-town was led by Claresa Ruholl with five digs, Molly Pals with three kills, Danielle Probst with four assists and Sara Zumbahlen with two blocks.

The Shoes finished their season with a 19-18 record.

In the second match, Mount Carmel downed McLeansboro Hamilton County, 25-21, 25-21.

Fairfield and Mount Carmel advance to the championship match Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 2A McLeansboro Hamilton County Regional

Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional

Newton advanced to the championship match in the Lawrenceville Regional Tuesday.

Cumberland opened the evening with a loss to Carmi-White County. Carmi-White County fell in the opener, 25-14 but came back with 26-24 and 25-18 wins for the match to end Cumberland's season.

The Pirates were led by Alyssa Dittamore with four assists and one block, Katelyn Shoemaker with three kills, Katelyn Haarmann with five digs and Megan Yaw with one ace.

In the second contest, Newton downed Robinson, 25-8, 25-13.

Schafer led the way in kills with seven and assists with 11. Stanley had one block. Bennett led in digs with 16. Mahaffey had two aces.

The Eagles are now 23-14 on the season.

Newton and Cumberland will square off for the regional championship at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional

Class 3A Effingham Regional

Effingham handed Charleston a loss in the Hearts regional Tuesday evening.

No. 2 EHS downed No. 7 Charleston, 25-9, 25-16.

Hannah Thompson led the Hearts in assists with 15 and aces with four. Bella Austin had seven kills, one block and seven digs. Sidney Donaldson and Mckenzie Love had one block each.

In the second match Tuesday evening, Bethalto Civic Memorial won over Richland County (Olney), 27-29, 25-20, 25-17.

Effingham advances to the championship match Thursday and will face Bethalto Civic Memorial at 6 p.m.

Class 3A Effingham Regional
