SEB Wins Twice At EIC Tourney, Area Volleyball Roundup

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed two victories in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Tuesday evening.

SEB won over Martinsville 25-23, 25-14 and downed Mulberry Grove 25-11, 25-14.

In the Martinsville match, SEB was led by Peyton Garrard with eight aces and 18 points, Addie Sasse and Avree Strobel with five kills each and Kinley Carson with seven assists and eight digs.

Against Mulberry Grove, SEB was led by Garrard with five aces, 18 points, four kills and 10 digs. Sasse had 11 assists and Abbi Ledbetter one blocked shot.

Mulberry Grove won the other contest over Martinsville, 22-25, 25-10, 25-16.

The tournament finishes Thursday with Patoka/Odin facing  Martinsville at 6 p.m. for fifth place, Ramsey against Mulberry Grove at 7 p.m. for third place and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and St. Elmo/Brownstown meeting for the championship at 8.

At Effingham

Effingham swept Mattoon in varsity, junior varsity and freshman/sophomore action Tuesday.

The Hearts won the varsity match in two sets, 25-18, 25-13.

Bria Beals and Bella Austin led the Hearts in kills with six each, aces with two each and digs with five each. Beals led in blocks with two and Hannah Thompson had 15 assists.

EHS also nabbed the junior varsity contest in two sets, 25-16, 25-9.

Averie Wolfe led EHS with two aces and 12 digs, Cami Burgholzer with 10 assists and two aces, Alyssa Martin with eight kills and Mckenzie Love with four blocked shots.

The Hearts won the freshman/sophmore match, 21-11 and 21-19.

At Effingham

At Tuscola

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 30-5 on the season with a victory over Tuscola Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets won 25-5, 25-11. Halle Moomaw led in kills with seven and had three block assists. Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with 21 while Gabby Vonderheide had one solo block and a block assist, Kinley Quast 11 digs and Anna Albert two aces.

"Tonight we wrapped up regular season play," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Tuscola was nice enough to honor our seniors along with theirs, which was a nice gesture. The girls ended their season playing well and having fun. Let's hope it continues into post-season."

WSS also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-20 and ends at 18-1 on the season. WSS was led by Brinlie Durbin with three aces and seven kills, Kendra Hayes with 10 assists, Zaida Wascher with eight digs and Maddie Beitz and Brooke Schumacher with one block assist each.

The freshman/sophomore squad won 25-19, 25-17 and ends at 5-6-9.

At Tuscola

At Altamont

Altamont was a winner in three sets over visiting Wayne City Tuesday evening.

The Indians won the opener 25-12 before Wayne City took the second set, 25-23. Altamont then claimed the match victory, 25-22.

Peyton Osteen and Makaylee Splechter had three aces each for Altamont. Maya Moore led in kills with six. Brianna Grunloh had eight digs. P. Osteen led in assists with 10. Kylie Osteen and Riley Rippetoe had three blocks each.

It was Senior Night for Teutopolis as the Wooden Shoes played host to Robinson.

Unfortunately for the Shoes, Robinson won the match. T-town took the opener 25-17 but Robinson came back with 25-22, 25-19 scores for the victory.

Leading T-town were Emma Deters with 13 kills, three aces and two blocks, TaNeal Einhorn with two blocks, Sara Zumbahlen with 16 assists and Claresa Ruholl with 11 digs.

Seniors honored were Emma Deters, Sara Niemerg, TaNeal Einhorn, RyLee Dittamore, Molly Pals, Kaitlin Tebbe, Danielle Probst and Summer Wall.

In the junior varsity contest, T-town was a winner, 25-18, 25-13. Madison Miller had nine kills and one block while Olivia Gardewine led in aces with four, Kaylie Jordan had 13 assists and Olivia Cates led in digs with nine.

T-town's freshmen/sophomores also won, 25-20, 25-22.

At Teutopolis

The South Central Cougars defeated Olney in two sets Tuesday evening, 25-20, 25-22.

Leading the varsity squad were Reagan Roberts with 13 assists and nine digs, Brooke Cowger with four aces and Emma Jenne with seven kills and one block.

The varsity squad improved to 21-11 on the season.

South Central also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-16 to improve to 10-4. Olney was a winner in the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-20, 25-17. South Central dropped to 7-4-3.

At Farina

At Cisne

North Clay/Clay City handed Cisne a loss in varsity action Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals won 25-15, 25-18 to improve to 26-8.

In the junior vasrity match, North Clay/Clay City was a winner 25-15, 23-25, 15-6.

North Clay/Clay City is back in action Thursday in its annual Senior Night against Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran.

 

At Toledo

Tri-County came calling and handed Cumberland a loss during Pink Out Night Tuesday.

Tri-County was a winner, 25-11, 25-22. Cumberland dropped to 13-20 on the season.

Megan Yaw had four assists, Katelyn Shoemaker four kills and four blocks and Suzy Fritts led in digs with 15.

Cumberland won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-12 to improve to 7-10.
