EHS, T-town, C'land Claim Volleyball Victories

Effingham High School tallied an Apollo Conference volleyball win over Charleston Tuesday.

The Hearts won in two sets, 25-11, 25-18. Bria Beals and Bella Austin led the way in kills with eight each. Berkley Pullen had 11 assists. Hannah Thompson and Austin provided three aces each. Sidney Donaldson led at the net with three blocked shots. Beals had eight digs.

In junior varsity play, the Hearts won 25-8, 25-16. Leading the way for EHS were Alyssa Martin with five kills, Cami Burgholzer with nine assists, Layni Frey with five aces, Reaghan Delong with two blocks and Averie Wolfe with six digs.

The Hearts also claimed a freshman/sophomore match, 21-17, 23-21.

EHS is back in action Thursday, traveilng to Mahomet-Seymour.

At Effingham

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis swept through for all three victories over Altamont Tuesday evening during Fear Nothing Night for cancer.

The Wooden Shoes varsity was a winner in a hard-fought match, The Wooden Shoes won 25-16 before Altamont came back with a 25-22 count. T-town then claimed the match, 25-14 to improve to 13-13.

"I suppose I should talk about volleyball, but ultimately, what I love about tonight is the effort the girls put into organizing the event. They did everything from freshmen to seniors and they did it for a local organization which is great too.

"Adults talk about kids never being involved or being lazy. They really need to look close and see what young people are capable of. I get to coach amazing, involved kids.

"Most importantly, student-organized, the T-town volleyball team raised $1,750 for "Fear Nothing" in Altamont.

"A key moment in the volleyball match, was a 10-point serving run by RyLee Dittamore in the third set which sealed the match."

Emma Deters had four aces and 10 kills for the Shoes while Sara Zumbahlen had one block and 12 assists. Claresa Ruholl led in digs with 15. RyLee Dittamore had four aces. Sara Niemerg, Molly Pals and TaNeal Einhorn had one block each.

Altamont was led by Maya Moore with five aces, Grace Lemke with five kills, Brianna Grunloh with seven digs, Peyton Osteen with seven assists and one block and Kylie Osteen with one block.

T-town captured the junior varsity win, 25-10, 25-9 to improve to 24-6 and won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-20, 25-22 and is 15-6.

In JV play, Madison Miller had four kills and one block for the Shoes, Kaylie Jordan four aces and 10 assists, Olivia Cates seven digs and Elise Pals one block.

T-town is back in action Saturday at the Morgan Burkett Tournament at Champaign St. Thomas More.

At Altamont

Sullivan opened with a 25-22 first set victory but Cumberland came back with 25-21, 25-14 scores for the varsity victory Tuesday.

Alyssa Dittamore and Megan Yaw provided the assists for the Pirates with 11 and 10 respectively. Hannah Shoemaker led in kills with nine. Katelyn Shoemaker had two blocked shots. McKenzie Matteson led in aces with three. Suzy Fritts had 15 digs.

Sullivan won the junior varsity match, 28-26, 26-24. the Pirates' Alyssa Dittamore led in assiats with eight, Mia Holsapple had eight kills, two blocked shots and 11 digs and Maddy McElravy led in aces with three. 

At Toledo

Patoka came calling and picked up a victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-21, 27-25 Tuesday evening.

CHBC was led by Karlee Smith with nine kills and two blocks, Koda Colman with three aces, Marissa Summers with 12 assisrs and Birgen Schlanser with 13 digs.

The Bobcats drop to 7-14 on the season.

In the junior varsity match, Patoka was a winner 25-21, 17-25, 25-16.

At Cowden

Shelbyville tallied a victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown in varsity action Tuesday evening, 25-14, 25-12.

SEB was led by Addie Sasse with two aces and one kill, Macie Gammon with seven points, Peyton Garrard with seven digs and Cordelia Lytle, Daniella Haslett, Garrard and Avree Strobel with one kill each.

At St. Elmo

At Oblong

North Clay/Clay City fell to Oblong in varsity action, 27-25, 25-23 Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals varsity dropped to 23-6 on the season and is back in action Friday at the National Trail Conference Tournament.

The NC/CC junior varsity team won, 25-20, 25-19.
