PANA -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg captured first place while Effingham was second at the Pana Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The two area teams squared off for the championship and the Hatchets came out a 25-19, 25-16 winner.

"The girls did a good job for the most part with a long day of volleyball," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We were able to get everyone some playing time. Congrats to Halle Moomaw and Gabby Vonderheide for making the All-Tournament Team and to the team for the first place finish."

Windsor/Stew-Stras opened the tourney with a 25-20, 25-8 win over Shelbyville. Kinley Quast and Anna Albert had one ace each. Halle Moomaw and Gabby Vonderheide provided the kill power with 12 each. Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with eight. Quast had nine digs. Moomaw led in block assists with three.

The Hatchets then won over Pana JV, 25-11, 25-23. Kinkelaar led in assists with 23, Moomaw had 11 kills, two solo blocks and one block assist, Ainslie Eident led in aces with three. Quast had seven digs.

In the third match, Windsor/Stew-Stras won over Effingham, 25-23, 25-10. Kinkelaar and Vonderheide had four aces each. Vonderheide and Moomaw had seven kills each. Kinkelaar led in assists with 19 and digs with seven. Moomaw had three block assists.

Effingham was led by Bella Austin with seven kills and six aces, Hannah Thompson with five assists and Bria Beals with five digs

WSS then downed Altamont, 25-9, 25-16. Kinkelaar had five aces, 26 assists and two block assists, Vonderheide with five digs and Moomaw had 11 kills and two block assists.

In the championship match, Windsor/Stew-Stras then won the title by beating Effingham, 25-19, 25-16. Kinkelaar, Vonderheide and Eident had one ace each. Moomaw led in kills with eight. Kinkelaar had 21 assists. Quast led in digs with seven. Mya Friese had three block assists. Wittenberg had one solo block.

Effingham was led by Austin with nine kills and one ace, Thompson with 16 assists, Beals with one block and four digs along with Austin and Angela Ballman with four digs each.

In other matches for Effingham, the Hearts defeated Pana Junior Varsity, 25-11, 25-8. Sidney Donaldson had seven kills and two blocks, Berkley Pullen, Thompson, Beals and Mckenzie Love with two aces each and Austin with four digs.

In the match against Shelbyville, Effingham was led by Austin with 12 kills, Thompson with 15 assists, Raegan Boone and Olivia Katt with three blocks each and Austin with seven digs.

In the Pana match, the Hearts were led by  Austin with eight kills, one ace and seven digs, Thompson with 17 assists and one ace, Boone with one ace and Beals with seven digs.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Moomaw and Vonderheide along with Effigham's Austin and Donaldson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

At Herrin

South Central went 3-2 Saturday and finished second at the Herrin Invitational.

The Cougars won over Cairo before beating Crab Orchard 25-10, 20-25, 15-13.

South Central then dropped a close match 25-19, 25-23 to the Tigers.

The Cougars came back with two set wins, 25-19, 15-12 and got a rematch against the Tigers. The Cougars battled the Tigers but Herrin pulled away for the second time on the day.

Emma Jenne was named a member of the All-Tournament Team.

With its 3-2 day Saturday, South Central now stands at 17-10 on the season.

 

At Olney

Teutopolis claimed the championship at the Olney Non-Varsity Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes beat Olney Junior Varsity, 25-23, 25-12 and won over Flora Junior Varsity, 25-19, 25-13.

T-town then beat Olney Freshmen, 25-12, 25-3 and won over Paris Freshmen-Sophomore team, 25-16, 25-10.
