S. Central, N. Clay, WSS, C'land, SEB Win In Volleyball

FARINA -- South Central captured two sets to hand Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a loss in National Trail Conference volleyball action Monday.

The Cougars won 25-13, 25-12 to improve to 12-8 on the season. Brooke Cowger led the way for the Cougars with four kills, six digs and two blocks. Reagan Roberts had 12 assists and six digs while Emma Chambers led in aces with five.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher Cty was led by Karlee Smith, Marissa Summers and Kyleigh Wallace with two kills each. Summers had three assists. Wallace had one block. Summers and Macee Rodman led in digs with six each.

CHBC dropped to 6-11 on the season.

South Central also claimed the junior varsity match, 18-25, 25-22, 25-15 and improved to 8-3. The Cougars and Bobcats split freshman/sophomore contests. CHBC won 25-20 and South Central won 25-23. The Cougars frosh/soph are 3-2-3.

South Central is back in action Friday at Webber Township (Bluford).

At Farina

At Teutopolis

North Clay/Clay City captured the varsity match over Teutopolis Monday.

The Cardinals won in two sets, 25-21, 25-23. T-town dropped to 11-11 on the season.

"The key in the match was we were up 18-12 in the first set and we committed six consecutive unforced errors which permitted the Cardinals to tie the game," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "They took the lead at 20-19 and did  not trail the rest of the way.

"North Clay is fundamentally solid. Unfortunately, tonight we had a ton of unforced errors (24 total) and 20-win teams take advantage of that, greatly to their credit. We've got players out currently due to injury which has an effect, especially after we had a great couple weeks leading into tonight. But, the bright side is we'll be healthy again in time for regionals next month."

T-town was led by Sara Niemerg with six kills, Claresa Ruholl with 12 digs, RyLee Dittamore, Molly Pals and Elise Pals with two aces each. Sara Zumbahlen had 10 assists and one block. Dittamore, Zumbahlen and Emma Deters had one block each.

North Clay/Clay City improved to 21-3 on the season and is back in action Thursday at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

T-town won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-8 and improved to 16-4. Olivia Cates led the Shoes with 16 digs, Olivia Gardewine with three aces, Megan Brummer with six kills and two blocks, Kaley Jordan with 10 assists and Madison Miller with two blocks.

In the freshman/sophomore match, North Clay/Clay City was the winner, 25-22, 25-21. T-town dropped to 8-4.

At Shelbyville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took on Shelbyville in a non-conference matchup Monday.

The Hatchets won 26-24, 25-20 and improved to 16-4 overall.

"The connection was not quite there tonight but it was a fun, high intensity game," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "The crowd was loud and it was exciting. Most of these girls play club together so it's great, friendly competition."

Ella Kinkelaar, led in assists with 24, aces with two and digs with 11 for the Hatchets. Gabby Vonderheide had 14 kills. Halle Moomaw had one solo block and one block assist while Ellie Wittenberg had two block assists.

In junior varsity play, Windsor/Stew-Stras was a 25-23, 25-20 winner and the JV has an unbeaten record of 13-0.

Brinlie Durbin had two aces and nine digs for the winners. Mya  Friese and Colby McCormick led in kills with eight each. Kendra Hayes had 14 assists. M. Friese had one solo block and one block assist.

Shelbyville won the freshman/sophomore match, 28-26, 25-18. WSS dropped to 4-2-8 on the season.

At Dieterich

Cumberland claimed a victory over Dieterich in both junior varsity and varsity play Monday.

The Pirates downed Dieterich, 25-17, 25-22 in varsity action to improve to 9-12 on the season.

Alyssa Dittamore led in assists with 11 and blocks with one for the Pirates while Hannah Shoemaker had eight kills. McKenzie Matteson, Suzy Fritts and Katelyn Shoemaker had one ace each. Fritts led in digs with 19.

In the junior varsity match, Cumberland pulled out a 20-25, 25-16, 15-10 victory and evened its record at 5-5.

St. Elmo/Brownstown captured a victory over Patoka Monday evening.

SEB won in two sets, 25-18, 25-15.

Peyton Garrard led the winners in aces with four, points with nine and digs with 14. Addie Sasse had six kills. Kinley Carson led in assists with seven.
