NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony improved to 6-2 on the season with a 25-10, 25-8 win over Neoga in high school volleyball action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs' Maddy Kibler led the way in aces with three and digs with 10. Abbi Hatton had six kills. Addi Nuxoll led in blocks with two. Addi Wernsing was the leader in assists with eight.

St. Anthony improved to 6-2 on the season.

The Bulldogs also captured the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-13.

At Neoga

At Taylorville

Effingham fell in both junior varsity and varsity action against Taylorville Tuesday.

The Tornadoes won the varsity match, 25-14, 25-15.

The Hearts were led by Hannah Thompson with 10 assists, one ace and one block, Sidney Donaldson with five kills and Bella Austin with six digs and one ace.

In the junior varsity contest, the Hearts won the opener 25-17 but Taylorville took the match, 25-14, 15-10. Effingham was led by Alyssa Martin with seven kills, Cami Burgholzer with 10 assists, Averie Wolfe with 17 digs and one ace, Berkley Pullen, Emma Newlin, Martin and Burgholzer with one ace each.

The Tornadoes also claimed the freshman/sophomore match, 21-13, 21-9.

Effingham won't be back in action until the Crossroads Classic Friday and Saturday.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis won in both junior varsity and varsity play and split in freshman/sophomore action against Sullivan Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes won the varsity match, 25-19, 25-18 to improve to 7-4 on the season.

"A key moment was a mad scramble back and forth with us scoring on a free ball that hit near the Sullivan endling," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "That led to a five-point run in the first set."

"Last year against Sullivan. it was decided by our errors, net violations, ballhandling, serving and passing. This year, the girls were determined to not make those unforced errors.

"We were only aced twice, stayed out of the net and finished with only seven hitting errors. It meant we could keep up the pressure all evening and force our opponent into mistakes. Now we get a couple days to work on things for the Crossroads Classic."

Leading the Shoes were Claresa Ruholl with 15 digs and two aces, Emma Deters with four blocks, TaNeal Einhorn with five kills, Summer Wall with two aces and Danielle Probst with 10 assists.

The Shoes won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-17 to improve to 5-1. Leading the junior varsity squad were Kaley Jordan with four aces and 12 assists, Elise Pals with seven kills and Olivia Cates with 14 digs.

At Teutopolis

North Clay/Clay City handed Altamont a loss in varsity competition Tuesday, 25-23, 25-15.

Altamont was led by Peyton Osteen and Della Berg with one ace each, Riley Rippetoe with five kills, Libby Reardon with seven digs, P. Osteen with eight assists and one block and Grace Lemke and Kyla Osteen with one block each.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity match, 25-23, 25-19 and the two teams split in freshman/sophomore play. North Clay/Clay City won 25-20 and Altamont won 25-23.

North Clay, as part of the 75th anniversiary of N0rth Clay High School, the Sept. 8 match will feature the 1990-1991 North Clay volleyball team which was the first volleyball team in school history to win an IHSA regional.

At Altamont

At St. Elmo

Brownstown/St. Elmo came back to hand Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a loss in volleyball action Tuesday.

CHBC won the opener 25-20 but BSE rallied with a 25-18 score and then won the match, 25-22.

BSE was led by Macie Gammon with 19 points, Presley Williams with 10 kills and Addie Sasse with 21 assists and 13 digs.

At St. Elmo

South Central defeated Dieterich in two sets Tuesday by 25-18, 25-23 scores.

Brooke Cowger led the winners in kills with 10. Reagan Roberts had 18 assists, Emma Runge three digs and Emma Chambers and Lauren Johnson with two aces each.

The Cougars junior varsity squad also won, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16 and the freshman/sophomore squad captured 25-11, 25-14 wins.

At Farina

Newton fell in junior varsity and varsity competition against Fairfield Tuesday.

The Eagles lost the varsity match, 25-22, 25-19 to drop to 6-7 on the season.

Zumbahlen had five kills while Mahaffey led in assists with eight. Kessler had two blocks and Bennett 12 digs.

In the junior varsity match, Fairfield was a winner 25-12, 25-11. The two teams split in freshman/sophomore play. Fairfield won 25-22 and Newton was a 25-19 winner.

Cerro Gordo/Bement came calling and picked up victories in both varsity and junior varsity play over Cumberland Tuesday.

Cerro Gordo/Bement won the varsity contest, 25-19, 25-17.

Leading Cumberland were Megan Yaw with eight assists, McKenzie Matteson and Charlee Thornton with four kills each, Katelyn Shoemaker and Hannah Shoemaker with two blocks each, Suzy Fritts with one ace and 11 digs.

Cerro Gordo/Bement claimed the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-23.
